However, it’s the views that are the real focal point here and the French doors invite you to walk out into the large fully enclosed garden and take in the absolutely stunning views towards the Brecon Beacons and Llangorse Lake; the largest natural lake in southern Wales. The garden holds another secret, a lovely summer house comfortably furnished for you to enjoy, whether you want to slope off and enjoy a good book or enjoy an evening drink and watch the amazing Beacon sunsets. There’s plenty of space for games in the lawned garden and a sheltered corner for sunbathing or a barbecue. If you’re bringing cycles or canoes there’s a large storage room and also a place to put outdoor clothing and boots.
    Nearby Llangorse Lake is renowned for its pike fishing but is also a fantastic haven for wildlife. Otters and water voles are among the mammals to be found here although often hidden in the reeds, but you won’t miss the birds such as warblers, coots, swallows, swifts, large flocks of Canada geese and other migrants congregate at Llangorse Lake at different times of year. You can hire a boat and enjoy the lake or visit the café. Apart from the two village pubs where food is also available, Llangorse offers pony trekking, an indoor climbing centre, and a huge choice of footpaths and bike trails within the Brecon Beacons National Park. Brecon is the home of the annual August jazz festival, Brecon cathedral and castle, and the Y Gaer Roman Fort. The Regimental Museum of The Royal Welsh is 6 miles away and the ‘book town’ of Hay-on-Wye and home to the famous annual festival is 12 miles, and well worth a visit. Drop into Talgarth, 4 miles away, and visit Talgarth Mill, a fully restored and working 18th century water mill. Guides will show you around and explain its workings, history and the story behind its restoration which was featured on the BBC programme ’Village SOS’. Flour is milled at least two days a week and children are given the opportunity to mill their own. A wonderful selection of home baked bread can be bought at the café, where you can sit by the river and sample their locally produced food and delicious cakes, as featured on TV’s Britains Best Bakery. Failte really is the perfect place for a holiday and once here you won’t want to leave. Shop 4½ miles, pub and restaurant 350 yards.
