From the county town of Haverfordwest you can easily explore the stunning coastal areas of Pembrokeshire as well as beautiful tranquil Welsh countryside in the hinterland - there really is something for everyone.

This ancient Pembrokeshire town is at the heart of the region, with the Western Cleddau flowing through the centre and the Haverfordwest Castle ruins overlooking. The presence of these late 13th century remains cut a dramatic figure on the skyline above the town, with a visit to the castle grounds revealing a story of great loss and triumph dating back to 1220. Once a busy port, the Haverfordwest quays have been redeveloped and just behind the County Hall is a fascinating fish pass through the weir for the migrating salmon.

Haverfordwest has one of the best regarded golf courses in Wales, the oldest cricket club and an excellent reputation for rugby, bowls and outward bound adventure centres in the surrounding countryside. Nearby beaches include the impressive Broadhaven stretch, popular for both windsurfing and bathing, as well as the quaint fishing village of Little Haven that descends to a sandy cove and the sailing marina of Neyland.

In town there is a good choice of pubs and restaurants; you won’t have to go far to sample homemade Welsh rarebit, Glamorgan sausages and the tea loaf, Bara Brith. Haverfordwest has a regular farmers' market, with locally sourced eateries such as the Pelcomb Inn drawing crowds from miles around for traditional Pembrokeshire fare.
