Gwynedd in North West Wales has an untouched mountainous and coastal landscape, which includes the magnificent Snowdonia National Park and a coastline of sandy beaches that face out over the Irish Sea. An area of great natural beauty and the perfect antidote to our busy, hectic lives!

The region is sparsely populated and has a rich and colourful history that dates back to 5th century Britain; a magical kingdom to explore, filled with history, heritage, eye-watering views and fantastic attractions. Here you’ll find towering mountains and fast flowing rivers, ancient forests and tranquil valleys, fascinating castles and quiet beaches.

There’s plenty to see and do; a great way to get a feel for the area is to travel on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways which takes you 13 miles from Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog and a 25 mile journey from Caernarfon through the foothills of Snowdon, respectively.

While you may see many of Gwynedd’s attractions en-route many of them are worth stopping for. The castle at Caernarfon is just one such attraction. Looming magnificently over the town the 700-year-old castle is in fantastic condition and offers a truly atmospheric visitor experience. Make sure you check out the views too! The Welsh Slate Mine paints a fascinating picture of Gwynedd’s industrial history. This may sound a bit dry but it’s actually a fun and interesting way to learn about the beautiful landscape that surrounds you and well worth a few hours of your time.

Garden lovers should head for some high-altitude garden delights at Wales’ highest garden, the Caerau Uchaf open gardens with a pet’s corner and adventure playground for the children. Also of interest is the seaside garden, Sunningdale, at Amlwch; a wild area with beaches, caves, cliffs and wildflowers.

And of course no trip to Gwynedd would be complete without a ramble in the Snowdonia National Park so get on your walking boots and you’ll be rewarded with some of the most stunning scenery in Britain.

These are usually held on either a Monday or Tuesday evening (weather dependant). With so much to keep you occupied on the farm, it may be difficult to tear yourself away, but this area of Wales has some wonderful activities right on your doorstep.
    Pwllheli is only 11/2 miles away and is the main town of the Lleyn Peninsula. It has a popular market on Wednesdays and Sundays in the main square. The town is full of character with its narrow streets, which have many independent shops, boutiques, traditional pubs, cafes and restaurants, as well as award-winning fish and chips, traditional Welsh ice cream and seaside rock. The 50 miles of Heritage coastline has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pwllheli’s beaches are mainly south facing; Glan y Mor Beach is sandy and sheltered near the marina, and South Beach is mainly shingle and pebble, and stretches the length of the attractive promenade, with a play area and skate park nearby. Spend the day walking the many miles of coastal walks, watch seals basking on the rocks, visit Pwllheli’s marina, play golf at one of the many courses close by, spend the day walking in Snowdonia National Park or visit the Iron Age hill fort.
    Porthmadog is just 13 miles from Pwllheli and Caernarfon is 21 miles away. With its charming houses and breathtaking views, Portmeirion is about a 30-minute drive from Gwynfryn Farm. Anglesey Sea Zoo is nearby, as are the Llandudno Copper Mines, both great days out for all ages.
