    Lying in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains in Mid Wales, this unique detached stone cottage makes an unforgettable experience for a family or couples alike. The first record of Llechwedd Mawr dates back to 1587 when a farmer, Richard Morgan, rented the land. It was the traditional way back then to graze cattle through the summer and make butter and cheese to sell in the neighbouring villages. A survey of 1811 described the building as "a stone house with a slate cover in good repair and that with 983 acres the rent shall be £22 per annum."

    Over the following years the house saw many changes and occupants until the 1950s when it became inaccessible due to a hydro-electric dam being built, and it stood abandoned and isolated for many years until a road was made. The present owners purchased the land and cottage in the 1980s and it was used merely to store sheep food until its complete renovation in 2011 and then two years later it was transformed into the uniquely positioned and beautiful holiday home it is today.

    The owners have been appointed Ambassadors to the Cambrian Mountains, an initiative set up by HRH The Prince of Wales to recognise high quality tourism establishments that contribute to the sustainability of the region. They have also received the prestigious certificate from the World Hosts programme in the principles of customer service. You are assured a warm welcome or "Croeso Cynnes" as they say in Wales.

As a mobile signal isn’t good in the cottage, a landline telephone is there in case of emergencies. There are three bedrooms upstairs, one with a king size  double bed and the second and third bedrooms both have twin beds. Ty Mari offers a detached, heated garden room with light, power and glorious views. If you should require more bedrooms and a second bathroom, there is a connecting sound proofed door to the adjoining cottage, as Ty Mari can either be booked independently or together with Penroc, where you can enjoy two double bedrooms and three twin bedrooms giving plenty of space for ten people and which would accommodate the gathering of family and frie

The Vale of Rheidol Railway now runs a steam train service through the Rheidol Valley terminating at Devil’s Bridge and here you can choose to go and see the three bridges over the river, or visit some of the other attractions such as the famous Mynach Falls, Devil’s Punch Bowl and Jacob’s Ladder.

Formerly a working farm which belonged to the historic Hafod Estate, Tynrhyd Retreat is a stylish barn set in Devil’s Bridge near the seaside town of Aberystwyth yet at the foot the Cambrian Mountains, in the heart of mid Wales. It is easily accessible yet it epitomises the away from it all peacefulness that you may long for. The owner’s great grandparents moved into the farm in the 1930’s; indeed the fifth generation of the family who now live here. Its beautiful harmonious blend of the rustic and the modern truly create a homely country living atmosphere. This stunning, detached, traditional stone barn has been lovingly restored to its present day impressive home away from home.     Step outside and the space continues! The steam train offers the ideal way to see the spectacular landscape and scenery and will deliver you to Aberystwyth where you can enjoy a walk along the promenade at this traditional university town and seaside resort, complete with pier and the oldest working electric cliff railway in the world. This whole area of Ceredigion has a more recent claim to fame being the setting and backdrop for the cult TV detective drama series ’Hinterland’ and special guided walking tours can be arranged to visit the well-known spots.
