Take a boat trip and perhaps catch sight of the famous bottlenose dolphins or go to Drumnadrochit, which is set on the shores of Loch Ness, as well as Fort Augustus, where you can watch the boats coming through the locks in the centre of the village.

    Slightly further afield is the beautiful Isle of Skye and the wonderful unspoilt scenery of the West Coast where you will find some wonderful restaurants to sample to local produce particularly seafood. From Skye, you can hop on to a ferry to the Outer Hebrides – a truly unspoilt part of Scotland with its rugged landscape and sweeping white sandy beaches. A day trip to the Orkney Islands is recommended where you can visit numerous archaeological sites such as Skara Brae, the Eagles Tomb and The Ring of Brodgar to name just a few.     Walker’s Neuk is an immaculately presented, ground floor cottage apartment situated in the charming fishing village of Anstruther. Renovated to a very good standard and thoughtfully furnished for comfort and ease, it creates a wonderful atmosphere for a relaxing holiday. This is just the ticket for exploring the cobbled streets, little alleyways and working fishing harbour, where you can watch the fishermen land their catch. Award-winning fish and chip shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, local shops and galleries are all within a few minutes’ walk, or take a boat trip to the Isle of May and visit the world-renowned bird sanctuary and nature reserve, famous for puffins, grey seals and other wildlife. Enjoy leisurely walks along the Fife Coastal Path, which runs through the village, and visit historic castles, pretty fishing villages and many beautiful beaches and coves. The area is famous for golf courses, with a challenging 9-hole course along the shore and many links courses in the surrounding areas. The sunny back garden is set over two levels and is shared with the upper apartment. It is the perfect place from which to relax after a day exploring the area. From the upper level garden you can enjoy beautiful sea views of the Bass Rock and over the Firth of Forth towards North Berwick, or on cooler days, curl up in front of the wood-burning stove with a glass of wine.
    The land at East Green in Anstruther was originally common ground, but in 1221 the Balmerino Monks were granted the right to pasture four cows and one horse. The monks businesses grew and small workshops were soon built to facilitate this. Walker’s Neuk was built in front of the site of their workshops in the 18th century, and workshop chimneys still jut out from one of the walls in the secluded gardens. Walker’s Neuk used to house the local blacksmith, whose brass founding facilities were kept busy making horseshoes for the horses that were working just along the road at the old gasworks. The upper apartment still has the iron bar on display where the forge door used to hang. Across the road is the birthplace of Andrew Waid, a local benefactor whose legacy is the foundation of the local secondary school in 1886. During the 1730s and 1780s the British Government received grants to set up whaling ports, some of this money came to Anstruther and in a land between Waid’s home and Hadfoot Wynd, a boiling house was erected. Two whalers called ’The Rising Star’ and ’Hawk’ worked for the company. Unfortunately, Anstruther could not compete with the other two main whaling ports on the east coast of Scotland, and the company dissolved leaving behind the legacy of Whale Close. The site of the boiling houses is now home to The Fisheries Museum. St Andrews is 9 miles away, and Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth and Gleneagles are all within an hour’s drive. Beach 200 yards. Shop and pub 200 yards, Michelin star rated restaurant 100 yards.

    Recreational possibilities include: 21 golf courses included in the Freedom of the Fairways Passport; walking, whether gently through woods and alongside rivers and towns, or on the more challenging Southern Upland and St Cuthbert’s Ways; cycling for all abilities on quiet local roads, on the many great cycle routes nearby or try some downhill trails at Glentress Forest, Peebles (cycle store available at the properties); or have fun on their Go Ape tree top adventure course; fishing for salmon and trout on the River Tweed and its tributaries, or on stocked lochs for trout and coarse fish. Examples of Sir John’s creativity can be found on the land and nearby, such as the suspension bridge over the spectacular Corrieshalloch Gorge and the Falls of Measach, both popular places to visit close by. Visitors are welcome to wander through the grounds of the house, help tend the lambs and meet the friendly Kune pigs bred by the owners. Fishing can also be arranged on the owner’s private stretch of the River Broom, framed for its salmon, trout and sea trout. Just 10 minutes’ drive away is the charming fishing village of Ullapool, which has a good selection of small shops as well as excellent local bars and restaurants. Situated in the crofting township of Balallan overlooking one of the many Lochans in the area, it’s cosy and welcoming with an open fire in the lounge and beams throughout the living areas. The large mature garden makes it private and secluded. Brown trout fishing is available on Loch na Deasport, 200 yards, and fishing rods can be supplied.

    It is in a very central location just 15 miles from the main town of Stornoway which has much to offer in the way of shopping, restaurants, museums and an art centre. Enjoy days out visiting the historical sites of the Callanish Stones, Carloway Broch, Ness Heritage Centre, Bosta and Great Bernera, Blackhouse Village or just enjoy the pristine sandy beaches on the west coast. The Clisham (the highest mountain in the Western isles) is only a short distance from Crobeg. Boat trips depart from Stornoway, Uig and Great Bernera for whale and dolphin watching and also further afield to the Shiants Isles and St. Kilda. There are a number of popular festivals which take place throughout the year including the Hebridean Celtic Festival, a large music event with many international artists as well as local musicians taking to the stage in July. The Royal National Mod is also another annual event, held in October, which is rich in Scottish Gaelic traditions. Join in the fun and listen to Gaelic poems, traditional bagpipes or watch one of the plays. The area has so much to offer; dramatic landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, dark skies, and even the Northern Lights can be spotted. Pub 2 miles, shops 6 miles and restaurants 2 miles.
