Pitlochry with its Festival Theatre, Explorers Garden and good selection of shops and restaurants is only 10 miles away. The area is well known for its spectacular scenery and there is no better way to explore than by walking on one of the many forestry tracks and way-marked trails. And for the more adventurous there are a number of Munros (mountains over 3,000ft) within an hours drive. The great outdoors has much to offer in Perthshire, especially Aberfeldy just 7 miles away, with water sports, fishing, golf, horse riding, cycling and off road sports available locally. If you fancy a day out in the city, Perth is just a 30 minute drive, with Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness all within 1 1/2 hours. The farmhouse at St Fink dates back to 1860, but that is only the start of the estate’s history. In the heart of rural Perthshire, St Fink is thought to derive its name from St Finaca or Findoce. There is believed to have been an ancient chapel on the estate belonging to Cupar Angus Abbey. It was named after the saint and dates back to around 720 AD, but unfortunately no remains are visible today. A burial ground surrounded the chapel and in the late 18th century a number of skulls were found here, encased between 4 square stones to hold them in place. Small coins and inverted urns were also discovered. This area has archaeological sites in abundance from Pictish remains with cairns and forts to stone circles and standing stones.

    Fishing is available free of charge just 15 minutes walk at a private loch, and a private stretch of the River Isla, with brown and blue trout. The River Ericht and the River Tay are widely considered as the best salmon rivers in Scotland. The hills and glens of Perthshire make it the ideal location for riding and hill walking, with the Cateran Trail close by. For serious walkers and Munro ‘baggers’ then hike up Ben Vrackie, Beinn a’Ghlo or Glas Tulaichean, to name but a few in the area. It is an ideal location for golfers, with five 18-hole and two 9-hole courses all within 5 miles, including the championship Rosemount course at Blairgowrie Golf Club. Further afield, the world-famous courses at Gleneagles, and the historic St Andrews Links, are both 36 miles distant. Winter skiing is available at Glenshee Ski Centre just 27 miles away.
    Whatever you choose to do during your stay you can rest-assured that the luxury of St. Fink Farmhouse awaits your return. Dundee is 5-minutes away by car and is a vibrant city, with much to entertain its visitors, and it has a range of restaurants and pubs. Here you can visit the RRS Discovery, which is the ship which transported Scott and Shackleton to the Antarctic, or head to the museums and theatres for an evening of entertainment. The very convenient location offers plenty of opportunities to explore the surroundings. The wooded hill slopes of the Braes are criss-crossed with little roads winding up to the villages of the Carse. St. Andrews, the home of Golf, is half an hour away and is well worth a visit, with its ancient buildings, good shops and the West Sands beach stretching into the distance. Other interesting days out include, hill walking in one of the five Angus Glens, with their stunning hill and loch scenery. Golfing is available at one of the many superb courses in the area; horse riding, fishing and sailing are also available close by. Fruit shop on farm (open Jun-Aug).     Set in an acre of ground, Kirkmichael House has views over the village of Kirkmichael, the Glen of Strathardle and the salmon River Ardle in Highland Perthshire, and lies on the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park. Originally the site of a Druid temple, there is believed to have been a dwelling here for 1200 years and a spring, which is believed to have healing properties, runs under the house and emerges on the road below. The current house was built in 1380 and partially rebuilt to its current shape in 1760. For hundreds of years it has been the manse to Kirkmichael Church and was in the ownership of the Church of Scotland through to the 1970s, after which it has been in private ownership and has been sympathetically renovated. Although a particularly tranquil village, Kirkmichael has witnessed some turbulent events in Scotland’s history from Roman skirmishes with the Celts in the first century AD to Oliver Cromwell’s reputed stay in the house in 1653 from where he fought a skirmish in the church grounds. It was here too that clans sympathetic to the Jacobite cause mustered in 1715 before marching south. For centuries Kirkmichael was a drovers’ (cattle traders) staging post and in more recent history, Kirkmichael was a stopover for parties travelling from Pitlochry to Braemar along what is now the Cateran Trail, including Queen Victoria who stopped here on her way to Balmoral in 1865.
    From the house there are many paths for walking, three local pubs serving food and a well-stocked local community shop. This is an ideal location for both summer and winter activities with Glenshee, Scotland’s largest ski resort, just 10 miles away, Perthshire’s long distance walking trail, The Cateran Trail, passing through the village, hill walking on the stunning Cairngorm mountains, mountain biking, bungee jumping at Killiecrankie and white water rafting on the River Tay. Other local attractions include The Strathardle Gathering every August (Highland Games), The Etape Caledonia Cycling Event in May, The Perthshire Open Studios and The Blairgowrie Book Festival in October, and various other local events.
