Situated in the very heart of Scotland amidst forest and woodlands, Perthshire has some of the finest and most accessible scenery anywhere to be found in the Scottish Highlands.

Whether you are outdoor enthusiasts, budding naturalists or simply like sitting back and soaking up the view; you''ll find something to feed your imagination here in Perthshire.

There''s a rich vein of history and culture that runs through Perthshire and from earliest times the area has played a very important role in shaping Scotland''s history. The region is awash with ancestral homes, castles and Iron Age forts. Follow in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots at Loch Leven Castle and discover one of Scotland''s most dramatic prison escapes. Or visit the crowning place of Scottish Kings, the ancient Scone Palace. Head to Killiecrankie to see the famous ‘Soliders Leap’ as epitomised in the Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689.

There are lots great holiday ideas for families too, all located within easy reach. Children will love Noah''s Ark Family Centre or flying birds of prey at Gleneagles School of Falconry. Find yourself being transported back to nature; you''ll find some of Europe''s most remarkable trees and woodlands in Perthshire, and there are some wonderful forest trails to tempt walkers and hikers.

Why not enjoy a bike ride and picnic around one of the regions many tranquil rivers, or head into the mountains for a Highland Safari and get up close with wildlife and rugged scenery. There''s an abundance of excellent golf courses in the area, as well as an unrivalled range of outdoor activities, including angling, snowsports and whitewater rafting, all within easy reach of your holiday cottage.

Many of the local towns and villages offer an insight into the area''s traditional craft making and local produce, from glass blowing and crystal engraving to Scotland’s oldest distilleries at Crieff. You''ll be inspired by Perthshire’s credentials as first class holiday destination.

    Ref: 31284

Loch Tay Lodges are beautiful self catering holiday properties (refs 31282, 31283, 31284 and 31285), set on a working sheep and beef farm in the heart of Scotland. Accessed by a well-maintained 55 yard dirt track, they form part of Remony Estate, which surrounds the picturesque village of Acharn, and enjoys stunning scenery overlooking Loch Tay towards Ben Lawers and Schiehallion. Red deer abound on the hills, red squirrels scurry about the established woods and trees, red grouse call on the heather, black grouse lek in early mornings and red kites circle overhead - a veritable wildlife paradise if you know where to look! The stone built Grade B listed building was originally constructed in the 1800s by the Earl of Breadalbane for house crofters. This has now been sympathetically converted to provide comfortable holiday lodges, whilst retaining many of its original features. It is located between the village and the loch, with good parking, a play area for children and easy access down to the loch where dogs may be walked. A secluded beach and jetty with access to a private boat shed and moorings are a temptation to those wishing to use the estate boats, sail their own, fish or simply paddle or have a picnic. Visit some of the many local restaurants and bars, where you will receive a warm Highland welcome and be able to taste the local produce. Nearby Kenmore boasts a village shop and post office, from where a shopping list may be ordered and placed in your lodge to await your arrival. Aberfeldy, the local town, can provide almost anything else you may need. Activities available locally include hill walking, bird watching, horse riding, golfing, fishing, sailing, white water rafting and other watersports. There are gentle walks, scenic tours and visits to castles and distilleries as well. Whether you are seeking peace and seclusion or a more action-packed break, there is something for everyone. Each season of the year has its own special appeal. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
