Pitlochry

The pretty Perthshire town of Pitlochry is the gateway to the Highlands and surrounded by beautiful mountain and forest scenery.

You’ll find everything from adrenalin sports and a mountain hike to gentle walks, historic castles and welcome drams in this popular highland town. Located by the River Tummel and with Ben Vrackie providing the back drop the Pitlochry area is a lovely place for a cottage break.

Enjoy gentle riverside walks and woodland trails around Loch Faskally; visit The Explorers garden where you can see a collection of plants from around the world. For more exertion scale Ben Vrackie and enjoy the panoramic views from its peak or ‘drop in’ to Highland Fling Bungee, the UK’s first permanent bungee venue set in the historic National Park at Killiecrankie. The Nae Limits adventure park has canyonning, canoeing, white water and rafting.

Nearby is the historic Blair Castle, ancestral home of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl, and the beautiful Hercules Gardens in the castle grounds. If you fancy a dram there are two distilleries in the area including Scotland’s smallest at Edradour.

By the banks of the river Tay is the Pitlochry Festival Theatre (The theatre-in-the-hills), which apart from the excellent plays, also has great views and is well worth a visit. Here you can relax and take advantage of their full catering facilities if you wish to.

If you would like to consider this area for your Scottish break see our collection of Pitlochry Holiday Cottages.
