Find cottages in Perth

Perth enjoys a beautiful position on the banks Scotland''s longest river, The River Tay. It was once the ancient Capital of Scotland and played an influential role in the country’s history which is portrayed by its fine historical buildings and elegant architecture.

Perth may be Scotland''s newest city, with modern facilities to match, but it is also rich in history and has a wealth of well-preserved castles, ruins and stately homes to explore. One of the most popular is Scone Palace, the crowning place of Scottish Kings including Macbeth, Robert the Bruce and Charles II. The palace lies on the banks of the river and features extensive grounds and a maze.

The Black Watch Castle and Museum is set in beautiful grounds and gardens and the museum offers a fascinating exploration into Scotland''s military history. Drive further out of the city and you will discover an abundance of ancient castles dotted around the surrounding countryside.

There is much more to Perth than its rich past. It is a thriving, modern city with an impressive array of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and a flourishing arts and entertainments scene. There are world class art galleries and festivals, music and dance events and live theatre performances. Each year, the city hosts its own Highland Games, drawing visitors from far and wide.

For a relaxing day out, drive into the glorious Perthshire countryside, enjoy a round of golf, a spot of fishing or walking, biking and horse riding among the forests, waterfalls and glens. Venture a little further North and you will arrive at the beautiful wilderness that is Highland Perthshire. Here you will find a dramatic landscape where rare Arctic plants grow, red deer graze and golden eagles swoop high above the mountain tops.

Come and discover a cosmopolitan city and the beautiful surrounding towns in the heart of bonny Scotland; search cottages in Perth today.

    Ref: SSAD

Gardener’s Cottage is a welcoming holiday cottage, one of a pair, in an unrivalled setting with views of the River Tay and surrounding Taymount Estate. Originally two cottages used to house Taymount’s groom and head gardener (who had an army of six workers in his daily employ), this cottage has a genuine charm. Having been substantially restored, this cottage perfectly balances the quirky, charming and archaic with the functional, comfortable and contemporary.
Guests will enjoy the thrill of stepping back in time as they light the log fire in the original range which has been sensitively restored. There are many other original features in the cottage, including additional fireplaces and ranges, which enhance the atmosphere in the cottage.
The estate was originally part of Scone Palace Estate and was gifted to the owner’s great, great grandfather who was Charles Archibald Murray as a wedding present in 1865 on the occasion of his marriage to Lady Adelaide Fielding at Westminster Abbey. The estate is rich in history; William Murray, the 1st Earl of Mansfield, the foremost of judges at the time, campaigned for the abolition of slavery. He took care of his two nieces, Lady Elizabeth Murray and Dido Elizabeth Belle, the daughter of his nephew and a slave, from which the movie Dido Belle was made. At the bottom of the garden, and seen from two of the upstairs bedrooms, is Campsie Linn Pool, which Walter Scott wrote about in the book The Fair Maid of Perth.
The three bedrooms are named after families associated with the estate (MacGregor, Rae and Moncrieffe), and there is a brief history in each.
From the cottage visitors have access to a network of footpaths and quiet roads on the estate, with an easy walk to the village of Stanley with a selection of shops, restaurants, Active Kids Adventure Park and historic Stanley Mills.
Perthshire is well known for its excellent range of outdoor pursuits. Trout fishing is available on the Rivers Tay and Isla, and local lochs. The Perthshire and Angus Hills are within easy reach for hill walking, and there is skiing at Glenshee in the winter months. Championship golf courses are at Rosemount and Blairgowrie, with further courses at Murrayshall and Alyth. The historic city of Perth is only 7 miles with a variety of shops, theatre, and concert hall, and there are excellent road links to Dundee, Edinburgh and Inverness.
After exploring the area and all it has to offer, why not relax with a glass of wine in the garden and enjoy the spectacular views, or curl up in front to the fire with a good book? Shop, pub and restaurant 11/2 miles.

Living room with open fire in original working range. One step up to large dining room. Four steps up to kitchen. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.
