    For many years, the farm operated as an 80-acre pig farm, but in 1999, a 10-acre section was sold off and the new owners completely transformed it. The farmhouse remained, but many of the sheds were taken down to leave just a small section, which was turned into stables. When the current owners took over in 2009, the barn itself was initially used as a machinery store and then a lambing shed, the barn has now been converted into a holiday home with a private hot tub, where guests can relax in the evening with a glass of wine in hand.

The cottage has gone through a transformation and the estate team has rebuilt many original features and refurbished the furniture. The coffee table, boot rack and bench in the utility room, kitchen table and bedside tables have all been hand crafted by joiners based on the estate. There are many beautiful finishing touches, with chairs having been upholstered, cushions and curtains made and even the lampshades handmade to fit each room. The cosy living room has an open fire which is perfect to curl up in front of with a book and relax, or sit round the table in the kitchen with friends and family and discuss the next day’s activities. Whatever you choose to do during your stay, rest-assured the luxury of Gardener’s Cottage awaits your return for a peaceful and relaxing evening.
    From the doorstep there are miles of countryside through the estate to explore and guests have a perfect opportunity to view wildlife in its natural habitat, with red squirrels, deer and hares being frequent visitors. The property is close to the holiday town of Crieff with a wide array of independent shops, cafés, art galleries, park, whisky distilleries and walks along the River Earn. With 20 golf courses within 15 miles, including the famous Gleneagles, loch and river fishing, mountain biking and hill walking, this is a perfect location for all ages.
    The estate and cottage are powered by a 1950 hydro electric plant.
    Guests can request a private tour of Monzie Castle and the hydro electric plant in advance. Tours are subject to availability of the owners who work full-time whilst trying to run a very busy and demanding estate! You can read more about the history of the castle, hydro, joinery and farm on the estate website. The castle consists of an L-shaped 17th century house and a castellated country house, built in 1795. The castle was gutted in 1908 by fire and was rebuilt by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1910. The house has been unaltered since then and is a testament to Lorimer.
    Take a day trip to Perth, 17 miles, or a little further, Stirling is 25 miles away. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

There is even a rumour that a tunnel runs from the house to the abbey at Coupar Angus.
    Perthshire has an excellent range of outdoor pursuits to suit all tastes and ages. Trout fishing is available on the River Tay, River Isla and many local lochs. For relaxing walks through the countryside and more strenuous hill walking and mountain climbing, the Perthshire and Angus hills are within easy reach, as well as skiing at Glenshee in the winter months. Championship golf courses are close by at Rosemount and Blairgowrie, with further courses at Murrayshall and Alyth.     Over Blairish Cottage is situated on the hillside above the attractive hamlet of Keltneyburn at the entrance to Glen Lyon. The private track up to the cottage is steep and bumpy in places and may not be suitable for very low slung cars or timid drivers. Located in Highland Perthshire, Over Blairish Cottage enjoys all the benefits of being in the Highlands whilst remaining accessible.
    The main attraction of the area is the stunning scenery, which includes some of Scotland’s best known beauty spots, including Glen Lyon, Kenmore and Loch Tay, Schiehallion and Ben Lawers. For the adventurous, canyoning, quad biking, white water rafting and further water sports are available at a purpose built centre at Loch Tay. Highland Perthshire has many stunning walks and cycle paths, with routes available right from the doorstep through SSSI countryside, which features an orchid rich wildflower meadow and gorge woodland. Salmon and trout fishing are available on the Rivers Lyon, Tummel and Tay. There are golf courses at Aberfeldy, Kenmore, Strathtay, Taymouth Castle, Dunkeld and Pitlochry, and the picturesque local towns also benefit from some excellent independent cafes, restaurants, shops, art galleries and studios. Castles, crannogs and stone circles also scatter the local area for fans of Scottish history. The Tay is one of the finest angling rivers, with Kenmore hosting a traditional ceremony each January to mark the opening of the salmon season. Ample walking and climbing opportunities are available in the area; for the energetic, there are seven munros within 10 miles, including Ben Lawers (Perthshire’s highest mountain) and Shiehallion. Fearnan sits at one end of the Tummel Forest Park and provides a variety of trails for leisurely walks, mountain biking and horse riding. Fine golf courses are widely available throughout the region, with two courses at Kenmore, and Gleneagles is within driving distance. Glasgow and Edinburgh are within a 2-hour drive.
