A short walk from the apartment will take you to Kallin Harbour where you are able to buy a wide range of locally caught seafood and Kallin shellfish which the area is renowned for. You can also take wildlife sightseeing boat trips around the Isle of Ronay and out to the Monarch Isles from the harbour.

    The Uists have so much to offer for the outdoor enthusiasts, artists and photographers as well as bird watchers, walkers and people with an interest in archaeology. The birdlife and wildlife are wonderful, there is an RSPB Reserve at Balranald which is only a short drive away. Whales and basking sharks visit in the summer. There are many historic and archaeology sites to explore including the Bonnie Prince Charlie Trail, the Trinity Temple at Carnish and so many more. The sunrises and sunsets, seascape, landscape and dark skies will amaze you.....

    By Air
    There are daily flights from Glasgow and Barra to Benbecula airport, seven miles away. You can also fly to/from Inverness and Aberdeen via Stornoway. Bookings can be made through FlyBe and Highland Airways.
    By ferry
    Please note that it is essentail to book ferry crossings as it is a very popular destination and the ferry does book out quickly. An Taigh Fiodh is located 16 miles from the ferry terminal at Lochmaddy, to which you can sail from Skye. See the Calmac website for sailing times. Alternatively, you could sail from Malaig to Lochboisdale on South Uist, 34 miles away. www.calmac.co.uk.
    By bus
    A bus service runs through Baigh-Mor (Baymore). See the Council website (service W17 for travel throughout the Uists, and service W22 for travel on Grimsay) for details. Scottish Citylink operate a service from Glasgow to Skye from where you can catch the ferry.
    Train
    If you want to make the mainland part of your journey by train, you can travel to Oban or Kyle of Lochalsh from Glasgow. See Traveline Scotland or First Scotrail for help with planning your journey.
