    Walker’s Neuk is an immaculately presented, ground floor cottage apartment situated in the charming fishing village of Anstruther. Renovated to a very good standard and thoughtfully furnished for comfort and ease, it creates a wonderful atmosphere for a relaxing holiday. This is just the ticket for exploring the cobbled streets, little alleyways and working fishing harbour, where you can watch the fishermen land their catch. Award-winning fish and chip shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, local shops and galleries are all within a few minutes’ walk, or take a boat trip to the Isle of May and visit the world-renowned bird sanctuary and nature reserve, famous for puffins, grey seals and other wildlife. Enjoy leisurely walks along the Fife Coastal Path, which runs through the village, and visit historic castles, pretty fishing villages and many beautiful beaches and coves. The area is famous for golf courses, with a challenging 9-hole course along the shore and many links courses in the surrounding areas. The sunny back garden is set over two levels and is shared with the upper apartment. It is the perfect place from which to relax after a day exploring the area. From the upper level garden you can enjoy beautiful sea views of the Bass Rock and over the Firth of Forth towards North Berwick, or on cooler days, curl up in front of the wood-burning stove with a glass of wine.
    The land at East Green in Anstruther was originally common ground, but in 1221 the Balmerino Monks were granted the right to pasture four cows and one horse. The monks businesses grew and small workshops were soon built to facilitate this. Walker’s Neuk was built in front of the site of their workshops in the 18th century, and workshop chimneys still jut out from one of the walls in the secluded gardens. Walker’s Neuk used to house the local blacksmith, whose brass founding facilities were kept busy making horseshoes for the horses that were working just along the road at the old gasworks. The upper apartment still has the iron bar on display where the forge door used to hang. Across the road is the birthplace of Andrew Waid, a local benefactor whose legacy is the foundation of the local secondary school in 1886. During the 1730s and 1780s the British Government received grants to set up whaling ports, some of this money came to Anstruther and in a land between Waid’s home and Hadfoot Wynd, a boiling house was erected. Two whalers called ’The Rising Star’ and ’Hawk’ worked for the company. Unfortunately, Anstruther could not compete with the other two main whaling ports on the east coast of Scotland, and the company dissolved leaving behind the legacy of Whale Close. The site of the boiling houses is now home to The Fisheries Museum. St Andrews is 9 miles away, and Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth and Gleneagles are all within an hour’s drive. Beach 200 yards. Shop and pub 200 yards, Michelin star rated restaurant 100 yards.

    This tastefully converted holiday cottage provides a fantastic base to explore the stunning Perthshire countryside. There is so much on offer here, with something to experience for all ages and interests. Right on your door step there are numerous trails and quiet back roads where you can enjoy walking or cycling. There are five lochs connected by the Lunan Burn, some are within easy reach providing great opportunities to go fishing and to canoe or kayak (permission required on some lochs). Loch of Lowes is looked after by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and a must for bird watchers – in the summer you may see Osprey, Great Crested Grebe, otters, red deer and red squirrels to name a few.

    Blairgowrie is your closest town and it has a great selection of shops and eateries. It has two championship golf courses – Rosemount and Lansdowne – plus there are numerous other courses to be found in the surrounding area. Take a drive past the amazing Meikleour Beech Hedge – officially the tallest hedge in the world! The Glenshee Ski centre is just 35 minutes’ drive, beautiful to drive or walk around in summer, and ski/snowboard in winter. For adrenalin seekers there are many outdoor pursuits such as white water rafting, cannoning and even a bungee jump. For a more relaxing adventure there are some wonderful drives through magnificent scenery. In the summer months there are many soft fruits grown locally, especially raspberries.

    Dunkeld is only seven miles away and is the oldest town in highland Perthshire. It is a cathedral town which sits on the banks of the beautiful River Tay. On the opposite bank lies the Victorian village of Birnam. They are linked by the magnificent Telford Bridge which was built in 1809. There are wonderful castles to visit from Scone Palace to Blair Atholl. Whisky lovers can enjoy sampling some of the locally produced ’water of life’ after a few distillery tours. The City of Perth, to the south, has a large selection of shops, restaurants, leisure facilities, cinema and theatre. Pitlochry, to the north, also has a fantastic theatre which boasts a different show every night of the week. During the autumn Pitlochry is home to the wonderful Enchanted Forest – an open air light and sound show. Tawny Cottage is a great cottage to stay in, with a fantastic countryside location and with easy access to explore central Scotland and in particular stunning Perthshire. With great road links you can easily venture further afield; east into Angus and Dundee, south to Fife, Stirlingshire or north to the Highlands and Grampians.     Mondhui itself has been a settlement since prehistoric times and above the property there are ’cup and rings’ markings. Within the grounds is a duck flighting pond which is ideal for bird watchers and beside the cottage there is a small pond. The area is a haven for birds and other wildlife including osprey, red kites, red squirrels, red deer, pine marten and badgers. From the door of the cottage you can walk directly up into the Menteith Hills and join the Rob Roy Way with hundreds of miles of forest track easily accessible.
    The cottage is furnished in a contemporary, country style with handmade wooden kitchen units, granite worktops and solid oak flooring throughout. Egyptian cotton linen and hotel quality towels are provided. It is in the perfect setting for those who love outdoor pursuits including walking, cycling, golf, pony trekking and fishing - the Lake of Menteith is Scotland’s premier trout fishing venue. It is also a great location for those simply wanting to chill out and enjoy the fabulous view of the lake from the covered porch, courtyard or from the comfy couch.
    Nick Nairn’s famous Cook School is only a few minutes drive away as is the popular Lake Hotel which serves good food at the lakeside. This is an ideal location from which to explore one of Scotland’s most picturesque areas or to use as a base to tour central Scotland. Within ten minutes from the cottage you can be in Aberfoyle, Callander, the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park at the David Marshall Lodge or taking a sail on the Sir Walter Scott steamship on Loch Katrine.
    Stirling with its ancient castle is 20 minutes away. Scenic Loch Lomond, the single biggest expanse of inland water in the British Isles, with its charming villages and bays to explore is only half an hour from the cottage. Gleneagles is 40 minutes’ drive. The cosmopolitan city of Glasgow is less than an hour’s drive with Perth and Edinburgh just over an hour away. There are many historic buildings, castles and distilleries to visit in the area. The Trossachs is a wonderful area to visit and no trip to Scotland would be complete without spending some time in the area. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
