Portree is the largest town on Isle of Skye and provides the perfect base, either in the town itself or in the surrounding area, for your cottage holiday on the Isle of Skye. This wonderful island has a rich Gaelic heritage and great natural beauty, which has attracted holidaymakers for decades.

This charming town is surrounded by lush green hills and fringed by cliffs, the brightly painted houses that line Portree harbour are a sight to behold. This harbour is a hive of activity where fishing boats and pleasure cruises bob side by side in a tranquil setting.

A walk through the town will take visitors past Portree’s most prominent landmark, the Mercat Cross and war memorial on Somerled Square. Another popular landmark in the town is the Royal Hotel, an important piece of history not only for its architecture, but also because it was once the site of MacNabs Inn, where in 1746, Bonnie Prince Charlie last met Flora MacDonald.

For those interested in the history and heritage of Portree and the Isle of Skye, the award winning Aros Centre is the cultural hub of the town. Interactive exhibits, theatre performances, concerts and films all combine to form an incredible exhibition dedicated to the area’s culture.
