    1
    Ref: CC511463
Tomnahurich Bridge House enjoys a semi-rural waterfront position alongside the Tomnahurich Swing Bridge on the Caledonian Canal, just a mile from Inverness city centre. The house has been renovated in a simple yet elegant style that blends beautifully with its 19th century roots. Sit at the upstairs window seats and watch the world go sailing by, or relax outside in the private garden. You can take a 15-minute stroll to the city centre to enjoy the many activities and amenities the Highland capital has to offer. Tomnahurich has its own sights to see so before you hit the city, take a tour of your surroundings.

Tomnahurich Hill is the stuff of legend. In former times and according to local folklore, it was the home of the fairies. There are tales of a fiddler taken captive by the fairy queen and after spending a night in her kingdom, he returns to find hundreds of years have gone by. Look out for a confused musician while you’re on your rambles! The hill is also said to be the resting place of Scottish seer Thomas the Rhymer. According to legend he lies with his men and their white horses ready to rise again should Scotland need them. He’s in good company. The cemetery built on the hill in the 19th century contains memorials for two Scottish recipients of the Victoria Cross. Major-General Sir Robert Adams won his for bravery during the Indian mutiny and Rear Admiral Sir Anthony Capel Miers received his during World War II action.

As if local legends weren’t enough, you can also explore Nessie’s story. Tomnahurich Bridge is a pick-up point for cruise boats heading to Loch Ness to search for the elusive monster. Yet all of this is only a mile from Inverness city centre with all the attractions it has to offer. Shop in the Victorian Market, the award-winning Eastgate Centre, visit the Castle or the St. Andrews Cathedral, or Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. Get a taste of the tropical at Inverness Floral Hall or a flavour of fine dining at restaurants throughout the city.

    Ref: CC511464
Built almost 200 years ago to help guide ships into the Caledonian Canal, the beautiful Bona Lighthouse has been lovingly restored whilst retaining many period features coupled with the cosy comforts of modern living. Overlooking the waters of Loch Ness and set on the banks of the historic Caledonian Canal, Bona Lighthouse offers breathtaking scenery and serenity amidst the majesty of the Great Glen. The stunning oriel bay window, which once held the light that guided ships onto the Caledonian Canal in its heyday, remains the focal point of the cottage, and is now the ideal spot to while away the hours gazing on the inky blue waters of the loch in search of Nessie.

Interior designed throughout, the cottage offers the perfect mix of modern flourishes and period features. The spacious lounge, with its wood burner and cosy furnishings, is the perfect spot to relax after a day spent exploring the many wonders of the Northern Highlands.
