Glencoe

Glencoe is renowned for its magnificent, brooding and dramatic mountainous beauty and has an important place in Scotland’s rich history.

This small settlement is exceptionally picturesque, and visitors will enjoy the peace and tranquillity when they visit the area. Visit the Glencoe and North Lorn Folk Museum to learn more about the area’s rich heritage which goes back to the days of the Vikings and it also tells the story of the inter-clan rivalries during the Jacobean uprisings and the infamous massacre of the MacDonald’s in 1692 which took place in Glencoe.

The National Trust Visitor Centre in Glencoe is also worth visiting for anyone who wishes to delve into the history of the area and understand more about its wildlife and landscape. The glen itself is a protected area due to its historical importance, and the National Trust for Scotland maintains and preserves it.

Glencoe is one of Scotland’s most spectacular places and its towering mountains and sweeping valleys have set the scene for several popular films, including the Harry Potter series and James Bond’s Skyfall. The area is ideal for walkers, and you can enjoy some of the finest trails in Scotland, all of which feature breath-taking scenery and uninterrupted views.
