A small town on the Morayshire coast, Buckie retains its old world charm and rich fishing heritage to this day and provides a lovely location for a cottage holiday.

A walk through the town will take you past some of Buckie’s listed buildings and St Peters Church and Cluny Lodge are just two examples of the striking 18th Century architecture that can be found here. Buckpool harbour, lighthouse and the former life boat station are also prominent landmarks in the town.

Situated one mile south of Elgin, it stands detached with its own private garden area in the owner’s 13 acres of grounds and gardens. The large lawns and fine mature woodland are a haven for wildlife including red squirrels and buzzards and guests are at liberty to explore freely throughout. There is a wealth of activities to be enjoyed in this area, renowned for its sunny climate. There are many excellent golf courses close at hand and sailing and other watersports can be enjoyed at Lossiemouth and Findhorn.

    The lively market town of Elgin still has its medieval street plan, with a cobbled marketplace. Superb shopping, cinema and good restaurants can also be found and the surrounding area boasts many sandy beaches with some of the best to be found in Lossiemouth and Findhorn, and of course the Moray Firth dolphins are a popular attraction for visitors to this area. Castles, stately homes and distilleries are abundant as well as good walking, most notably on the Speyside Way and traffic-free cycling can also be enjoyed. Inverness is within easy driving distance. There is fishing on the River Spey and Findhorn.

    Gordon Castle certainly has a fascinating history; from its initial connections with King Robert the Bruce to being instrumental in creating the first legal whisky distillery at Glenlivet, and of course its continuing association with the famous Gordon Highlanders, it is a wonderful place to visit. Garden Cottage is on the castle estate and is very comfortably equipped. The 18th century building, as its name suggests, overlooks the beautiful walled garden - a gardener’s paradise.

    Nowadays the estate is renowned for being one of the finest sporting estates in Scotland, where fishing and shooting are well catered for. In addition, other water sports can be arranged, such as white water rafting or kayaking on the magnificent River Spey. The Moray Firth is rated one of the top ten coastal destinations in the world by National Geographic and it is easy to see why; explore the rugged coastal paths between Inverness and Peterhead and take in the magnificent scenery, superb beaches and varied wildlife. Travel inland to Whisky Country – many famous distilleries are within an easy drive or for golfers there is a plethora of good courses for both beginners and more advanced players. The world famous Baxters of Speyside is across the river in the town of Fochabers where there are plenty of good shops, pubs and eateries.
