Escape to this beautiful Canadian, cedar shingle, detached country cottage in the heart of rural Perthshire. Situated in the grounds of Balgersho House, this delightful cottage is surrounded by magnificent scenery and wildlife. Originally built in 1946 for the estate gardener, the cottage has been thoughtfully furnished for guests’ comfort and ease. The bright, cosy living room enjoys a wood-burning stove, ideal for relaxing with a glass of wine in front of whilst discussing the next day’s adventure. All the roads around Balgersho Garden Cottage are designated cycling friendly routes, and the Cateran Trail starts in Blairgowrie, a 103km circular fully waymarked walk. The trail takes it’s name from the feared cattle thieves who raided the lands of Strathardle, Glenshee and Glen Isla. For relaxing walks through the countryside and more strenuous hill walking and mountain climbing, the Perthshire and Angus hills are within easy reach, as well as skiing at Glenshee in the winter months. Championship golf courses are close by at Rosemount and Blairgowrie, with further courses at Murrayshall and Alyth. Visit distilleries, Scone Palace, beautiful gardens and the historic city of Perth, 12 miles, with a theatre, concert hall and a great variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. Choosing places to stay is about location, location, location, and with private sandy beaches, spectacular scenery and prolific wildlife, these delightful holiday properties are the perfect choice for families, couples or friends. Enjoy spectacular views over the Solway Firth to the hills beyond and across fields to Galloway’s most beautiful mountain, Criffel.
West Lodge (31263) is a delightful, detached, 19th-century gate lodge which was at one time the estate schoolhouse, which might account for the unusually ornate slatework on the roof, which makes it look a little like a gingerbread house. It has some of the best views on the estate across the Solway Firth to the Lake District and the Isle of Man, along the Colvend Coast taking in Southerness lighthouse and the Portling cliffs and across rolling farmland to Criffel Mountain. Although it looks small on the outside, it provides comfortable accommodation for 4 guests. The property is all one level but unfortunately the doors may be too narrow for some wheelchairs
Powillimount Cottage (31264) is a three bedroom, traditional stone built Galloway cottage. It is quiet and secluded, surrounded by cornfields and is just a 5-minute walk from a fabulous beach. The cottage has idyllic views of the sea, Southerness Lighthouse and the Lake District Mountains to the front and Criffel, Galloway’s finest mountain behind.
The ancient Barony of Arbigland comprises farmland, woodland and foreshore on the Solway Firth coast, bounded by the River Nith near Dumfries in the south west of Scotland.
