    Fascinating walks from the house allow visitors the opportunity to explore this area of great natural beauty and to observe the abundant local wildlife, including small red deer, owls, otters and seals. Harbour House is also ideally situated for all forms of boating, sailing, canoeing and diving, and there is a small slipway in front of the house for those wishing to bring their own boats. The famous Crinan Canal flows into the sea just around the corner, and offers quayside coffee shop and bar. There are several excellent restaurants in the area, including the renowned Crinan Hotel.
    From Crinan, a walk or cycle ride along the canal towpath leads to Loch Fyne at Ardrishaig (7 miles), and Lochgilphead (7 miles) where there is a variety of shops, restaurants, a sports centre, swimming pool, and 9-hole golf course. Kilmory Woodland Park boasts an Iron Age fort, bird hide and lochside views, and Castle Riding Centre runs highly enjoyable riding courses as well as renting out bicycles and golf equipment.
    There are many places of interest to visit, including the prehistoric linear cemetery at Kilmartin Glen. Island trips to Mull, Iona and Staffa can be made from Oban (30 miles). Oban is also home to the Oban Sea Life Centre and the Oban Rare Breeds Farm Park. Sea fishing can be arranged and there is fly fishing within 3 miles. Glasgow is only 20-30 minutes’ flying time from Machrihanish Airport, which in turn is 10 minutes’ driving time from the property. British Airways operate two flights daily, one in the morning and one in the late afternoon. Campbeltown is one of a handful of areas in Scotland categorised as a whisky producing region and is home to the Campbeltown Single Malt - at one point having 34 distilleries and proclaiming itself the whisky capital of the world. The town boasts two distilleries as well as a museum, heritage centre and harbour, with an annual regatta and music festival. Other attractions in the burgh include The Wee Picture Cinema and a recreation centre (fitness centre, swimming-pool, café and library). The town is well served with supermarkets, independently-owned local shops and excellent hotels and restaurants offering the finest local produce. The surrounding area is well known for its fine beaches, unspoilt countryside and scenic walks, with the addition of the Kintyre Way making this an ideal location from which to explore the Kintyre Peninsula, including Skipness Castle, the village of Carradale, the Mull of Kintyre and Gigha. Lying just off the west coast of Kintyre, the Isle of Gigha offers a pleasant day trip. Within a short distance there are many quiet and sandy beaches to explore and there is easy access to the Isles of Islay, Arran and Jura. The living room has large windows on three sides, ensuring guests can enjoy a great view when relaxing and a wonderful open fire with oak mantelpiece. The bespoke oak kitchen/dining room is fully fitted and includes a granite worktop island, an American style fridge/freezer with cold water and ice dispenser, and a large, oak, bespoke family dining table to seat 10. There are also two spacious double bedrooms on the ground floor, one with an en-suite with a tower shower with massaging jets, the other with patio doors which lead to the garden. The ground floor bedrooms have accessible wet rooms for those less able. Upstairs, there are three more bedrooms all with loch views. The first floor bathroom has a freestanding bath which is positioned below double Velux windows with views of the hills and loch. There are two patio areas for relaxing and soaking up the sun and loch views. The shoreline is accessed via the other side of the quiet country lane and a canoe or kayak can be easily launched from here. A boat mooring is available on request to the owner and boats can be launched locally. Fishing is available from the rocky shoreline. This is a very spacious property which can easily accommodate family groups or those who just like to spread out and have their own space.


    The wildlife here is fantastic; even from the comfort of the cottage one can see a variety of bird life, especially at low tide when a large sandbank is exposed. Otters have regularly been spotted in front of the house. Seals and gannets are also regular visitors. Inveruel is a great base from which to explore this stunningly beautiful area and to sample the wide range of activities on offer. The Argyll Forest, part of the simply gorgeous Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, is on the doorstep and has numerous forest tracks, marked walks, cycle ways and wonderful waterfalls to explore. Walkers should seek out the Cowal Way, a long distance walk running from Portavadie to Arrochar. A number of public gardens are located in the area such as Ardkinglas, Crarae and Benmore Botanic Gardens with its avenue of giant Redwood trees. There are 3 golf courses available locally and many opportunities for a spot of fishing. At Colintraive there is a short ferry crossing over to the picturesque Isle of Bute and a visit to the fabulous Victorian Gothic Mount Stuart House is a must. Tighnabruaich has a sailing school and a selection of small shops. Dunoon has a good centre for shopping, leisure facilities and a small cinema. Inveraray is also a great day out with the Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll and the 19th century Inveraray Jail both well worth a visit. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Cowal (the area between Loch Long and Loch Fyne) boasts excellent opportunities for exploring the great outdoors - particularly walking, hillwalking, and cycling. The Kyles of Bute and Tighnabruaich, with the beautiful sandy beach at nearby Kilbride Bay, should not be missed! The ‘Arrochar Alps’ in northern Cowal offer some of the finest hillwalking in the southern Highlands, and the ’Cowal Way’ (Portavadie-Arrochar) and the walks at Kilmun Arboretum and Loch Eckside are particularly recommended. The highly popular October walking festival, known as Cowalfest is now firmly established as a highlight of the year in the Cowal calendar, with all walks graded and numbered. There are also cultural and social events to accompany this event, which usually lasts about ten days around the middle of the month - a must for walkers! Excursions on the famous paddle steamer ’Waverley’ are available direct from Dunoon pier up to five days each week during the season, and are highly recommended and extremely popular. The wonderful Benmore Botanic Gardens near Lock Eck provide an idyllic setting for a fascinating day out.

This detached, multi-storey farmhouse is located on Ederline Estate, a family-owned working hill farm, covering around 13000 acres of stunning scenery. The estate is made up of woodland, far reaching moors, 22 lochs; all with wild brown trout which guests are welcome to fish with a fly (£10 per day), and on Loch Ederline guests can fish for pike, perch and roach. Wildlife in the area is legendary, with red and roe deer, pine martens, foxes and red squirrels often seen. The famous Scottish wildcat and otter are also common but not seen as regularly. Golden eagle, osprey, peregrines, black and red throated divers and many other rare species all nest on the estate. The area is rich in history and archaeological sites, with the main concentration in the Kilmartin Glen only a short distance away. On the estate itself there are two ancient chapels and a castle to be explored. Activities include kayaking (£10 per half day, £15 per full day), local pony trekking, and in season, stalking can be arranged. The numerous forest trails and Crinan Canal tow paths are ideal for walking and cycling. Short ferry crossings to Islay, Gigha, Mull and Arran are easily made, or the Kintyre Peninsula offers white sandy beaches and some of the best golf courses in Scotland. There are an abundance of good restaurants in easy motoring distance of Ederline Estate which cater for all tastes with some excellent sea food. Shop and pub 5 miles.

A visitors’ reception/library area provides a wealth of information on the local history, archaeology, wildlife, gardens, forest and hillside walks, as well as the year-round activities available around Argyll and the West Highlands.
    The Ardbrecknish Room has a welcoming open fire, small dance floor, pool table, darts and Scottish Carpet Bowls. The adjoining cosy traditional bar with its woodburner provides a perfect way to end the day; perhaps sampling one or two of the many malt whiskies.
    At the shore, just 10 minutes’ walk, motor boats, rowing boats and canoes can be hired to explore the enchanting islands and ruined castles of the loch, or maybe fishing the loch for salmon, char, monster pike and brown trout. A British record brown trout of 31lbs 10oz was caught in March 2002. Tuition and/or a fishing guide is available by arrangement.
    The surrounding area offers a wealth of interest and fantastic scenery. Opposite Ardbrecknish is majestic Ben Cruachan, and further north are the impressive Glen Coe and Ben Nevis ranges, a mecca for hill walkers all year round. Both regions have ski centres and within an hour’s drive is the busy town of Oban, ‘Gateway to the Isles’, from where modern ferries take you to Mull and Iona, the cradle of Christianity, Staffa, the inspiration for Mendelssohn’s Fingal’s Cave Overture, and to other Hebridean gems. Oban has a sea life centre and an excellent golf course. The elegant town of Inveraray on Loch Fyne only 12 miles away, to the south is the Crinan Canal with its stepped locks, you can walk or drive a delightful route along its 9-mile length.
