By Wyndham Vacation Rentals

Dundee has a long sea-faring tradition and as Scotland’s fourth largest city, combines a city break with easy access to beautiful coast and countryside.

Dundee is suitable for city breaks, golfers and those that enjoy the great outdoors. Proudly remembering its long maritime and industrial culture, you can explore the port''s extensive textile industry at the Verdant Works or climb aboard Captain Scott''s ship RRS Discovery on the bank of the River Tay. The ship is now berthed at the award-winning Discovery Point Visitor Centre and offers a wonderful day out for the whole family.

Dundee''s burgeoning cultural quarter is home to the popular Dundee Rep Theatre and the Dundee Contemporary Arts centre, while Broughty Castle Museum holds a fascinating display of the life and times of Broughty Ferry.

With a good shopping area, you''ll find a cottage in the Dundee region provides a good base for exploring the maze of shops and local boutiques the city has to offer. The Green Cycle way offers you the opportunity to get to know Dundee on two wheels, with a scenic route around the city circumference via meadows, castles and waterfronts; with the latter undergoing considerable development to provide a first class waterfront environment.

Camperdown Country Park is set in over 400 acres, the park is home to 190 species of trees, woodland trails, adventure playgrounds and the excellent Camperdown Wildlife Centre is where you can spot European brown bears, wolves, lynx and ring-tailed lemurs.

  • Binns Farmhouse

    Fowlis, near Dundee

    Ref: UK5181
Situated at the end of a quiet road, next to a working farm (no unaccompanied children allowed), this rambling farmhouse is great for families or groups, with plenty of space for everyone. It is an old Victorian farmhouse built around 1850 with 3ft thick walls to keep the weather out in the winter months, and the cool in, in the summer months. There are two staircases, with the back one being used by the maids in the olden times, perfect for a midnight raid on the fridge down near the kitchen area. It has been furnished in the style of its period, keeping its Victorian farmhouse character. A snug off the kitchen makes a great TV room for the children, while the large dining room seats 10 in comfort. The warm and comfortable interior is complemented by a 2-acre garden. Beyond is a large orchard bisected by a stream, with hidden areas – ideal for hide and seek! Planting at Binns Farmhouse is wildlife friendly, and the grounds have many visitors including migrating birds, toads, voles, hedgehogs, deer, unusual moths and butterflies. Trees and plants can produce seeds and berries at certain times of the year that attract the wildlife - but not all berries can be eaten!

Mixing a fascinating history with a fresh, contemporary look, the city of Dundee is just 3 miles away and has arts and culture in abundance, family friendly attractions and much more.
