Aberdeenshire

Aberdeenshire in Scotland’s north east offers fantastic access to some of the best that the country has to offer; and as well as having plenty of holiday cottages in the region for you to choose from, you’ll also discover breath taking landscapes, rich history and lots of activities for all the family. With such an abundance of things to see and do, you won’t have to travel far from your cottage to find some fantastic ways to enjoy your holiday.

It’s an area that is tailor-made for relaxing outdoor holidaymaking, offering a wealth of activities and attractions to help make the perfect Scottish holiday break. For example you can enjoy some of the most stunning walks in the highland fells, explore the region’s rich history through its many archaeological sites and castles, or head for the coast to relax and enjoy the fresh air, with the most beautiful coastal views.

The region’s history is perfectly encapsulated in the incredible Dunnottar Castle. This stunning 14th century fortress offers breathtaking views and thanks to its cliff-top location allows you to bask in some of the region’s most beautiful scenery.

Staying in a holiday cottage is also the perfect way to explore the region’s whisky heritage. The Speyside Cooperage in Craigellachie grants a uniquely fascinating insight into the production of oak casts. The only one of its kind in the UK, it forms part of the celebrated Malt Whisky Trail.

The outdoor pool in Stonehaven is equally unique. The last of its kind in Scotland, it offers clean seawater heated to 29 degrees C and makes for a uniquely relaxing way to enjoy your break in Aberdeenshire.

Skiing in the Cairngorms is of course one of the highlights of the winter months but thanks to a number of dry slopes it’s also possible to pursue your passion in the summer season if you like!

For those after the simple pleasures in nature the region has a multitude of rivers and waterways, making it a haven for anglers and wildlife lovers keen to relax and enjoy the unrivalled tranquility offered by their surroundings.

This charming and unique property can be found on the Aberdeen coastline, inside the original, walled, Aberdeen Girdleness Lighthouse compound, designed by Robert Stevenson (grandfather of the author RL Stevenson of Treasure Island fame). The lighthouse has a Grade A listing with Historic Scotland as a building of architectural and historic interest.

1 Lighthouse Cottage is a very special three-bedroomed holiday cottage, being the original lighthouse keeper’s cottage inside the walled compound. Built in 1833, it is now professionally interior designed within, yet retains its unique charm and period features including working window shutters; even the brass door hinges are originals and stamped NL (Northern Lighthouse).
