Banff has a long and fascinating history, which today is exemplified by the many historic buildings that can be found throughout the town. One such building is the magnificent Georgian built, Duff House, which is now home to some of the most prized pieces of art in the whole of Scotland. The truly stunning garden setting in which Duff House is situated is also well worth seeing.

In easy reach of Banff, just across the River Deveron, is the former spa town of Macduff with its bustling, pretty harbour. One of the most popular attractions in Macduff is the Marine Aquarium, which has a huge open air tank as its centrepiece.

The natural beauty of the landscape around the town makes it a great choice for those who enjoy walking and cycling. There are many wonderful coastal and country routes available throughout the area, perhaps none better than the walk that which takes in the quaint fishermen’s cottages of Scotstown before reaching its beach destination at the Banff Links, where dolphins can often be spotted not too far offshore.

It has the allure and ambience of a Cornish fishing village, but without the crowds!  The small winding streets, picturesque harbour and old stone cottages seem untouched by time.  It really is the quintessential seaside village and Puffin Cottage is just a stone’s throw from the water’s edge. The spectacular views, headland and bays have been the setting for a number of television programmes and the village has become a haven for artists.  Sandy beaches and rocky coves make it an ideal location for all ages. 
    The owner is also happy to provide a catering service for visitors, cooking on an ad hoc basis by prior arrangement. Even Christmas dinner can be provided; ideal for couples wishing to have a relaxing Christmas break by the sea with all the stress and strain taken care of!  A romantic retreat.

Within walking distance of the village is a wonderful marina. The beach stretches for three miles around St Combs in one direction and Faserburgh in the other. Along this stretch of coastline boast golden sands and impressive dunes, and are ideal for wildlife lovers, in fact south of St Combs is what has been described as one of the best stretches of sand dune and beach in the country, extending ten miles past Rattray Head to Peterhead. Visit Strathbeg Nature Reserve with its RSPB visitor centre or explore the other villages along this sandy stretch of coastline to Pennan, the setting of the film ’Local Hero’. Inverallochy itself also boasts a charming golf course, a beautiful links golf course and many other hidden treasures.
