Find cottages in Umbria

In the ‘green heart’ of Italy, Umbria has most, if not all the attributes of its illustrious neighbour to the west. It’s a region of picturesque medieval hill-top towns and villages, peaceful and unspoilt countryside, cultural and culinary experiences. Discover this tranquil region of Italy; and for accommodation please see our selection of villas in Umbria.

Umbria is a rural region of gently undulating open countryside, vineyards, olive groves and cypress-topped hills. It’s regarded as an area that truly has kept alive many of the old Italian ways, uninfluenced by other cultures; the perfect place to experience rural, untouched Italy.

There are lots of places of interest which will vie for your attention; Perugia, Umbria’s capital, with its Gothic palaces and ancient monuments, Assisi on the slopes of Monte Subasio, famous for its connections with St Francis, Orvieto perched precariously on a volcanic outcrop, Spoleto with its cultural events and most romantic setting, Norica, surrounded by mountains and famous for its gastronomy, Todi, with an impressive hill-top position and beautiful market square and Gubbio, with its wonderful medieval streets and mountainous backdrop.

In addition you’ll find a host of smaller villages such as Montefalco, a walled town with fantastic views, Spello, with its stacked terraces of medieval houses and Trevi, a most picturesque hill-top village with more superb views; one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Bettona, with its well preserved mediaeval walls will also give you great views with its high vantage point on the edge of the Colli Martani Mountains.

The Tiber River runs through the region which includes a number of tranquil lakes, including Lake Trasimeno, the largest in central Italy and beauty spots such as the Cascate delle Marmore waterfalls which can be found near Terni.

If you fancy taking to the water, canoes, kayaks and boats can be hired on most of the lakes and at various points along the Tiber. Enjoy a lazy day travelling up the river, stopping for a traditional meal or a glass or two of locally produced wine.

Umbria has plenty to offer visitors, from the natural, untouched countryside and medieval towns and villages, to eating in family run restaurants and visiting traditional village markets. Take a look at our wide choice of villas in Umbria and start to plan your visit to this unspoilt and beautiful region.
