by Wyndham Vacation Rentals

Possibly Italy’s most quintessentially Italian region, Tuscany seems to have it all; from exquisite art, cities and towns packed full of Renaissance and medieval architecture, beautiful rolling countryside and wonderful cuisine. It’s no wonder why holidaymakers love it. If you’re looking for self catering accommodation in Tuscany, see our wide selection of villas in Tuscany.

Tuscany’s largest city is Florence which has the finest collection of Renaissance art and architecture found anywhere in the world. Thousands of visitors come here to see the multitude of cultural and historical attractions such as The Uffizi gallery, The Accademia with statue of Michelangelo''s David, the Palazzo Pitti, the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo and of course the Duomo and tapestry. Apart from the renowned buildings, great galleries and museums, there are fine restaurants, exclusive shops and some excellent outdoor markets.

Somewhat smaller than Florence, is Siena with its outstanding mediaeval architecture and pedestrianized streets. Its focal point is the Il Campo, a scallop-shaped piazza with a towering Duomo – a most impressive sight in a most impressive city. Also take some time to explore the pretty hill towns south of Siena; Montepulciano and Montalcino – well worth it.

This region of Italy has so many traditional, beautifully preserved, medieval towns and villages, just a few of which include elegant Lucca, San Gimignano with its famous towers, the hill-top town of Cortona and Volterra located on a plateau surrounded by volcanic hills.

The city of Pisa, with its world famous leaning tower, has more to offer than its most famous building, with many other fine examples of historic architecture, including a number of impressive churches throughout the ancient port city.

In the upper Arno Valley north of Arezzo in the Casentino region, you’ll find beautifully tranquil national park; this is the place for peaceful walks (there are 800 kilometres of paths) and exploring ancient castles amongst the hills and forests.

Another area noted for its natural beauty is the coastal plain that rises just south of Grosseto, offering a wonderful landscape that combines coastal marsh, forest covered hills, cliffs and great beaches – just perfect!

In fact Tuscany as a whole is known for its natural beauty, with great cycling trails, walks and nature reserves to explore, the area is also a prolific wine producing region so you will find plenty of tasting and vineyard tours available.

We have a great selection of holiday villas in Tuscany for you to choose from situated throughout the region – so whether you want the ultimate cultural experience or a restful retreat in the Tuscan countryside, take the opportunity to explore this beautiful region in Italy.
