Find cottages in Campania

The region of Campania extends from just north of Naples south down the coast and includes famous stretches of some the most stunningly beautiful coastline in the world, including of course the Amalfi coast. To experience this beautiful region for yourself take a look at our villas in Campania.

This is naturally one of Italy''s most visited regions where people come to see the picture postcard towns and villages that cling to the coastline, offering the most beautiful views out over the Tyrrhenian Sea. The region’s capital is Naples, and travelling south along the coast road there are numerous picturesque towns to be discovered such as Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and Salerno.

Many of Naples'' museums and attractions, including the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, the Museum of San Martino, Castel Sant''Elmo, and the Certosa can be visited free of charge. There are also numerous churches and monasteries worth visiting in and around the city. While here take in the beautiful Caserta Royal Palace for its architecture and artworks.

The Amalfi coast is best described as a series of colourful and impossibly beautiful mountainside towns and villages, perched on cliff side terraces overhanging the sea, linked by narrow roads full of death defying hairpin bends. Together the settlements and roads make for one of the world''s most memorable drives, though the beautiful coastline is equally spectacular when viewed from one of the many boat trips operating out of Naples and Sorrento.

The beautiful sun-kissed islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida sit in the turquoise waters of the Bay of Naples and are easily accessible from the mainland.

Of course this region is also famous for its ancient archaeological sites such as Herculaneum, Pompeii, Velia and Paestum and the brooding Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano on mainland Europe. Pompeii and Herculaneum were destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 and are amongst the best preserved examples of an ancient Roman city.

Away from the coast discover the ancient footpaths and tranquillity of the Parco Regionale Monti Picentini and the Cilento and Vallodi Diano National Park. Further to the west, first colonised by the Ancient Greeks and maintaining a Greco-Roman culture during the Roman era, the ancient village of Calitri is surrounded by castles, palazzos and other sites of historical significance.

If you want explore go car-free the region has a comprehensive public transport system, with most areas linked to Naples by train or bus. For a full day out Rome is about two hours away from Naples and has rail links with most of Italy''s main cities.

For self catering accommodation take a look at our selection of villas in Campania, and explore this beautiful region of southern Italy.
