    The village of Recess is located 13 miles from Clifden. Here you will find a grocery store, the famous Joyces Craft Shop, a bar and a church. Within the village car park you will find ‘The Connemara Giant’, a 20th century stone giant. Local folk lore tells us that if you touch the hand of the giant, you will be blessed with the knowledge of his ancient tribe. Recess village is set amongst Glendalough Lake and Derryclare Lake. The lake and mountain scenery is a sight to behold. The nearby glaciated Inagh Valley is north of recess and stretches towards Kylemore along Lough Inagh. The valley itself separates the Twelve Bens from the Maumturk Mountains, and the valley’s lake, woodlands and hills are enjoyed by many walkers, fishermen and artists. Lough Inagh is a well-known game fishing lake and visitors are more than welcome to fish there. Boats can be hired locally.
    The market town of Clifden is a short drive and is home to the Alcock and Brown Atlantic crossing crash site. It has many fabulous restaurants, many serving the local fish and most of the pubs have music sessions during the year. There are also art galleries and many lovely craft shops. Connemara Golf Links is in Ballyconneely and pony/horses can be hired at various locations in the area. Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey are a scenic short drive from the house and 50 miles from the city of Galway. Beach 10 miles. Shop and pub 4 miles, restaurant 2 miles.

    Bike hire is available in the village for those who would like to spend some time exploring the area and all of its hidden gems. The village also hosts traditional Irish music and dance nights throughout the summer, and it boasts many scenic routes such as the Inishnee Loop Walk, Ervallagh, the Bog Road Loop and Errisbeg Hill, which is ideal for cyclists and walkers.
    Gurteen Beach and Dogs Bay are located close to Roundstone village and are renowned for their particularly white sand and pods of dolphins are a regular sight in the bay. The beaches are very popular with windsurfers, dinghy sailors and kite surfers.
    Annual events in the village include a traditional boat regatta, the internationally renowned Roundstone Pony Show takes place in Farrells Field throughout the summer months.
