    The lovely Owenriff River runs through Oughterard, starting in the Connemara mountains and ending its journey, at the edge of town, into Lough Corrib, which runs alongside Oughterard, and is the largest lake in Ireland. The fresh water trout and salmon bring fishermen from all over the world to try their luck or to savour it in the Oughterard restaurants.
    There are many lovely drives around the area as well as trails for walking and hiking. Famous tourist spots within close driving distance include Aughnanure Castle, Kylemore Abbey and Inchagoill Island. It is also only 23 miles from Galway City, the third largest city in the Republic, offering souvenir shopping as well as a taste of European styles.

Belle Isle Castle is a stunning Irish castle situated on its own private island in the centre of Lough Erne. Belle Isle Estate has been designated a Special Area of Conservation and the castle itself is a fantastic 17th-century country house. The strong stone walls, huge solid wood doors and sculptural window surrounds are encased in a sea of ivy leaves and traditional planting. The sunken garden makes the perfect space for gatherings, impromptu or otherwise.
    The castle is made up of two wings, the Hamilton Wing (ref W32275) which has eight bedrooms and the Abercorn Wing (ref W32274) which has five bedrooms. The property may be booked in its entirety incorporating both wings or individually for smaller groups. It is ideally suited for weddings or other large parties and catering can be arranged on request or may be done by guests themselves. The banqueting hall accommodates up to 60 guests. Garden Cottage (ref W32276) is a lovely detached cottage situated in a walled garden, which is a cosy retreat with wonderful views over the lakes and surrounding countryside. The Oak Cottage (ref W32277), Chestnut Cottage (ref W32280), and Lime Cottage (ref W32281) are three of eight terraced cottages in a courtyard setting close to the castle and the lake shore. Each cottage has its own grassy outside area with barbecue available and a picnic table. Indoors you will find all amenities and plenty of space to relax in, and are decorated to a good standard with unique period furnishings and a wood burner. Built in 1856 the coach house is a beautiful stone building which now accommodates the spacious Coach House 1 apartment, (ref W32278). It is located close to the lake shore with peaceful woodland walks on the doorstep. Cath Cart Lodge (ref W32279) is a spacious detached property located on the lake shore with direct access to the lake and with wonderful views over the water.
    The grounds are peaceful and extensive and on site is also a children’s playground, tennis courts, cookery school, sailing/boating and coarse fishing. Local attractions in the area include Belleek Pottery, Florence Court House and Forest Park, Marble Arch Caves, golf, horse riding and National Trust properties. There are 18-hole parkland golf courses in Tuam and Ballinrobe. The property is wonderfully located for those wishing to tour the Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Connemara and Achill, as all are close enough for a day trip, and then maybe return to Blackberry Lodge for dinner prepared by the ’in house’ chef!
