County Leitrim

This quiet corner of Ireland offers visitors the chance to relax and unwind in tranquil surroundings. County Leitrim is defined by its rivers and lakes and has Europe''s longest navigable inland waterway; the Shannon Erne winds its way through the county and offers plenty of opportunities for fun on the water. For self catering accommodation take a look at our cottages in County Leitrim.

Country Leitrim has an attractive slower paced lifestyle and makes an asset of its extreme peacefulness. The region is famous for its waterways and days spent idly cruising up and down is the perfect pastime for those who want to soak up the scenery and enjoy the Irish ambience at a more leisurely pace.

For those who enjoy the great outdoors there are also plenty of activities to enjoy, from sedate cruises on the Shannon to windsurfing or white-water rafting. The tiny coastline offers some great surfing and for those who prefer not to get wet, there are some world class golfing facilities at the nearby Carrick-on-Shannon.

The 48km Sli Liatroma walking trail is a wonderful, but demanding way to explore the region by foot but plenty of shorter walks are also available. County Leitrim has an excellent reputation with fisherman and those in search of water sports with several pristine lakes and rivers.

Like many Irish county’s, Leitrim is full of historical attractions and the region has a rich cultural heritage. The ancient stone bridge at Drumsna connects Leitrim and Roscommon is still in use today, and the ruins of Creevelea Friary are a must see for history buffs.

A visit to the tiny Costello Memorial Chapel, the smallest church in the Europe, is also worth a look. The Fenagh Heritage centre offers great insight in to the area and the Cavan & Leitrim Railway will take you back in time on a steam train journey to remember.

County Leitrim is filled with cultural activities so whether it''s enjoying traditional Irish music at one of the many pubs situated along the river, or a visit to the annual An Tostal Festival or Iarann Music and Arts Festival, there is something for everyone.

County Leitrim holiday cottages offer the perfect base from which to explore this tranquil part of Ireland; soak up the peace and quiet it offers!
