Find cottages in County Kilkenny

Experience the wonderful contrast of the buzz of Kilkenny city with the string of delightful towns and villages that sit along the River Nore and beyond. In County Kilkenny you can find both a modern vibrancy and traditional Irish life; a perfect holiday combination. For accommodation see our cottages in County Kilkenny.

During your stay visit the medieval city of Kilkenny. Known as the marble city, because of its local black marble, the city is a great mix of the old and the new. Kilkenny’s Norman castle is one of the most iconic monuments in Ireland, and well worth a visit, as is Saint Canice''s Cathedral, the second largest medieval cathedral in Ireland with excellent views over the city. Rothe House and Garden is regarded as Ireland''s best surviving example of a 16th century merchant''s house. The museum should not be missed and a walk around the walled gardens will prove a delight.

Kilkenny has a lively atmosphere with narrow, winding medieval streets, beautiful gardens and traditional Irish pubs. It also has a thriving artisan craft and arts scene and is famous for its festivals, including the Kilkenny Cat Laughs comedy festival which attracts visitors from all over the world.

The River Nore that runs through the region is home to some of the very best wild trout fishing, especially at Durrow, with salmon and coarse fishing also popular. The Kilkenny countryside is full of excellent cycling and walking trails, some of which comprise the ‘Kilkenny Trail’ and The South Leinster Way which winds its way through beautiful forests and mountains.

Follow the river to discover lovely places like Thomastown, Bennettbridge and Inistioge. Kilkenny likes its ‘trails’; so apart from its walking trails watch out for the Blasta Food Trail and the Kilkenny Craft Trail!

A popular visitor attraction is the ancient Dunmore Caves in Ballyfoyle, with its gigantic stalagmites. The caves have particular historical and environmental significance, and were once the site of a massacre by Viking raiders.

To help you get acquainted with this beautiful region we have a fine selection of holiday cottages in County Kilkenny that will provide the ideal base for exploring this varied corner of southern Ireland.
