Find cottages in County Kildare

Just to the west of Dublin is County Kildare, is renowned for its horse racing and golf courses, as well as its Grand Canal, history and scenic walks. To find accommodation see our cottages in County Kildare.

One of the major attractions in the county is the Irish National Stud and Gardens at Tully. Beside the magnificent horses on show, there are also spectacular gardens, the Horse Museum complete with skeleton of legendary steeplechaser Arkle, a restaurant, craft shop, and a children''s play area. Punchestown Racecourse, Ireland''s National Hunt Racing headquarters, and the Curragh Racecourse at Newbridge are also within the region.

The Irish Forestry Service-managed Donadea Forest Park can take a whole day to explore, with its ruined castle, walled garden, ice-house, church and lake set in more than 250 hectares of stunning parkland.

Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park is set atop the Bog of Allen mineral island at Rathangan (its better than it sounds). Adults will enjoy exploring the historical exhibitions and stunning gardens, while the whole family will love the woodland walks, train rides, crazy golf and pet farm complete with famous Falabella horses. For the children there is an adventure play area and indoor play centre.

Before you go check out some of the popular attractions in the area which include Ballindoolin House and Gardens with its Victorian walled garden, the world-renowned Berney Bros Saddlery in Kilcullen, the Georgian Burtown House with its farmland and park walks, the 18th century Castletown House, and Clonfert Pet Farm.

Still more entertainment can be found at the 15-acre Coolcarrigan Gardens, Crookstown Craft Village, Curragh Pottery, the 18th century Harristown House at Brannockstown, Kildare Town Heritage Centre, Maynooth Castle and College Gardens, and Leixlip Castle.

For leisurely canal side walks join the restored Grand Canal which extends westwards from Dublin to the River Shannon.

County Kildare has a number of excellent golf courses including the Arnold Palmer designed K Club at Staffan, which has hosted the Ryder Cup, the Darren Clarke-designed Moyvalley Golf Club is nearby along with the Naas Golf Club at Kerdiffstown, to name a few.
