Find cottages in County Donegal

With its rugged cliffs, craggy peninsulas, mountains and Blue Flag beaches, County Donegal’s immense natural beauty makes it an ideal choice for a relaxing Irish getaway; and we have self catering accommodation throughout the county – see our selection of cottages in Donegal.

Situated in the North West corner of Ireland on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, County Donegal has a rich history with lots to see and do and a plenty of outdoor activities from excellent walking and cycling to first class water sports and golf.

With some 772 miles of coastline, Donegal can state claim to a number of Blue Flag beaches. Here you’ll find large expanses of pristine sand, small coves and rocky outcrops; just perfect for blowing the cobwebs away. To fully experience the lovely coastline take one of the many boat trips out to see whales, dolphins and the numerous sea birds, or maybe go on a fishing trip. There are also excursions to the offshore islands.

As you might expect there are numerous excellent coastal and countryside walks that take you through some of the most beautiful landscapes. The Glenveagh National Park in the heart of the Derryveagh Mountains offers stunning walks and the Ards Forest Park combines beach side strolls with woodland paths. The Slieve League cliffs are a must-see, and for the experienced a climb up Mount Errigal or Lough Salt Mountain is a great way to take in the surrounding beauty.

The ‘Poisoned Glen’ (probably a mistranslation from the Gaelic) is situated at the foot of Errigal, Donegal’s highest mountain and is one of the most photographed areas in Donegal due to its natural beauty.

While you’re here visit Donegal Castle, a stunning 15th century building which has been completely restored, taking pride of place in the centre of Donegal town. Portraying the county’s more recent history, to the north at Newmills there''s an old operative corn and flax mill and a workhouse at Dunfanaghy which has been restored and now turned in to a museum. For a family day out get along to Bundouran where there’s a large amusement arcade and waterpark.

Golfers will love this place as County Donegal has a number of top rated courses, including Ballyliffin which is regularly in the top 30 courses in the UK and Ireland and the County Donegal course itself.

Take a closer look at this north west corner of the emerald isle and find your holiday cottages in County Donegal here; the perfect base for which to discover this lovely unspoilt region.
