The Mizen Head Visitor Centre at Ireland’s most south-westerly point is well worth a visit. Crookhaven village has an interesting history, and its harbour offers summer sailing opportunities. Whether swimming, walking or surfing, the glorious beach at Barleycove is a delight. Schull, 10 miles, has a good selection of shops, seasonal water sports, sea angling and Ireland’s only planetarium. From here, you can get a ferry to Cape Clear Island, the largest of Carbery’s Hundred Isles, or embark on the Fastnet Tour. This is also an excellent base for touring further afield. Bantry, Glengarriff and Garnish Island, and the other stunning peninsulas of west Cork, are just some of the numerous options for day trips. The work of local artists, craft workers and artisan food producers can be found in the villages and towns throughout the area. Beach 4¼ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 3¼ miles.
