About Bridport & West Bay

Foodies and fun-loving families alike will feel perfectly at home in Bridport & West Bay, as Dorset’s county town serves up fabulous holiday experiences, from Michelin starred dining to the eccentric Dorset knob biscuit throwing festival, and everything in between.

The market-town is home to many independent shops, bars and eateries alongside historic houses and gardens, with the notable inclusion of Thomas Hardy’s former residence, open to the public through the National Trust.

With a history dating back to Roman Times, there are lots more stories to unearth in Bridport & West Bay than just those preserved in classic literature, with a wide selection of walking tours, sites of interest and museums for holidaymakers to explore. Legends can also be discovered in the surrounding area, including one of Britain’s biggest mysteries, the Cerne Abbas Giant. Referred to locally as the ‘rude man’ for reasons you will quickly understand, it is emblazoned on the hillside just 10 miles north of the town!

A wealth of attractions, beautiful architecture and a busy calendar of events ensures Bridport & West Bay has something for everyone. Just two and a half hours from London, it’s a popular starting point for many visitors to the region and a great base from which to experience Dorset’s delightful coast and countryside.
