Pas-de-Calais

Despite being the first port of call for many holidaymakers, Pas-de-Calais is a relatively undiscovered hidden holiday gem with miles of tranquil countryside, delightful coastline and plenty of local culture and heritage to dive in to. So it almost goes without saying that a holiday cottage or gîte in the region is a delightful proposition. Just a short distance from Dover across the Channel, you will find plenty to explore and enjoy.

The gorgeous market town of Hesdin is perennially popular destination with holidaymakers. Boasting a wealth of gorgeous architecture (despite the fact Charles V destroyed much of the town in the 16th Century), the stunning cathedral and Place d'Armes square are perfect places to gain an appreciation of this lovely location. A weekly market and August fete are just the icing on the cake.

The Côte d'Opale is an incredibly popular tourist destination – not to mention the reason so many holidaymakers choose cottages with pools in this part of Pas-de-Calais. Here you will find the popular city of Boulogne-sur-Mer , an historic fishing port with origins in Roman times. Enjoy fresh seafood and feasting your eyes on wonderful scenes such as the 12th-century belfry, a UNESCO recognised heritage site.

More wonderful heritage can be found in Arras with an array of wonderful architecture and historic buildings to explore and enjoy. If you’re seeking something a little more tranquil – and since you’re looking at holiday cottages with pools, we guess that you probably are! – then a visit to Le Touquet Paris Plage is all but essential. Here you will find long stretches of golden sand, glorious ‘golden age’ seaside architecture and a host of delightful cafes, bars and restaurants.

Located on the railway line to Calais , Saint-Omer offers a wealth of history. The town played host to several conflicts over the years, from the Norman era to World War II. Despite this there’s a host of preserved heritage to explore, not to mention a delightfully varied heritage. And when you’ve finished soaking up the region’s beauty you can return to your cottage with a pool and enjoy some serious relaxation. With properties that sleep two up to large properties for group bookings and family gatherings there’s a host of choice in this wonderful corner of France.
