Since William the Conqueror conquered England in 1066, the Dukes of Normandy were often also Kings of England until the early 13th century. Many medieval landmarks can be found here and visitors will enjoy visiting some of the abbeys, churches, castles and palaces for which the region is renowned.

In more recent history, of course, the famous Allied D Day Invasion took place on the beaches of Normandy. Today visitors can explore the five beaches where more than 130,000 Allied Soldiers landed. The region is also home to many interesting museums and memorials to this period of World War Two and visitors can view old tanks, defences and army bunkers that played a part in the conflict.

As well as a fascinating history, Normandy''s wide beaches and 350 mile coastline make an ideal playground for families, with quiet meandering country lanes and rural farmland further inland to explore.
