Loire Valley

If you are looking for self catering accommodation in the Loire Valley you’re in the right place as we have an extensive selection of gites in the Loire Valley for you to choose from.

The Loire River and the Loire Valley was given World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2000 for the unspoilt nature and architectural heritage that extends some 280 km from Sully-sur-Loire in Loiret to Chalonnes-sur-Loire in Anjou; the perfect location for your cottage holiday accommodation in France!

Often called the Valley of the Kings, the Loire Valley is home to a record number of Renaissance chateaux and medieval fortresses. French nobility flocked here between the 15th and 18th centuries to lavish their wealth on creating the grandest and most magnificent chateaux.

These include the chateaux at Sully-sur-Loire, former home to the Duke of Sully, Chateaux de Chambord which counts 365 chimneys, one for each day of the year, while Chenonceaux was built above the river Cher. The gardens at Chaumont sur Loire and Villandry are of world class reputation.

Discover the region’s historic cities with their many elegant shops, pretty cobbled streets, tree lined avenues and convivial cafes. Tours is a lively, vibrant city which has plenty to see and to do, including 30 street markets. Every May, Orléans hosts a week of lively celebrations in honour of its heroine Joan of Arc who liberated the city in the 15th century. Blois is home to a magnificent royal chateau built in the middle of the town. The town of Amboise was home to Leonardo da Vinci, who lived at Clos Lucé which now features scale models of his ingenious inventions; it also has fine chateaux with terraces that overlook the Loire Valley. Chartres has a UNESCO World Heritage cathedral, half-timbered houses and a delightful old town.

Cycling is a popular way to explore the Loire Valley thanks to the Loire à Velo network of cycling paths which criss-crosses the region, taking you near the main attractions. The Zoo at Beauval is amongst the most respected zoos in Europe or enjoy a family day out at the Mini Chateaux Park which features small replicas of the Loire Valley’s famous chateaux.

Hot air balloon rides are one of the region’s lesser known attractions and are undoubtedly the best way to appreciate the beauty of the region and its chateaux.

Take a wine tasting tour of the troglodytes’ caves of Vouvray, also the name of a prize winning sparkling white wine. Back at your cottage; sip some Sancerre, Muscadet or Rosé d’Anjou with some local goat’s cheese and a baguette. Fresh water fish including perch and pike are also amongst the local specialities.
