The Loire River and the Loire Valley was given World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2000 for the unspoilt nature and architectural heritage that extends some 280 km from Sully-sur-Loire in Loiret to Chalonnes-sur-Loire in Anjou; the perfect location for your cottage holiday accommodation in France!

Often called the Valley of the Kings, the Loire Valley is home to a record number of Renaissance chateaux and medieval fortresses. French nobility flocked here between the 15th and 18th centuries to lavish their wealth on creating the grandest and most magnificent chateaux.

These include the chateaux at Sully-sur-Loire, former home to the Duke of Sully, Chateaux de Chambord which counts 365 chimneys, one for each day of the year, while Chenonceaux was built above the river Cher. The gardens at Chaumont sur Loire and Villandry are of world class reputation.

Discover the region’s historic cities with their many elegant shops, pretty cobbled streets, tree lined avenues and convivial cafes. Tours is a lively, vibrant city which has plenty to see and to do, including 30 street markets. Every May, Orléans hosts a week of lively celebrations in honour of its heroine Joan of Arc who liberated the city in the 15th century. Blois is home to a magnificent royal chateau built in the middle of the town. The town of Amboise was home to Leonardo da Vinci, who lived at Clos Lucé which now features scale models of his ingenious inventions; it also has fine chateaux with terraces that overlook the Loire Valley. Chartres has a UNESCO World Heritage cathedral, half-timbered houses and a delightful old town.

Cycling is a popular way to explore the Loire Valley thanks to the Loire à Velo network of cycling paths which criss-crosses the region, taking you near the main attractions. The Zoo at Beauval is amongst the most respected zoos in Europe or enjoy a family day out at the Mini Chateaux Park which features small replicas of the Loire Valley’s famous chateaux.

Hot air balloon rides are one of the region’s lesser known attractions and are undoubtedly the best way to appreciate the beauty of the region and its chateaux.

Take a wine tasting tour of the troglodytes’ caves of Vouvray, also the name of a prize winning sparkling white wine. Back at your cottage; sip some Sancerre, Muscadet or Rosé d’Anjou with some local goat’s cheese and a baguette. Fresh water fish including perch and pike are also amongst the local specialities.

    This well presented holiday barn conversion has extensive gardens with lawns, well maintained flowerbeds and magnificent views. The swimming pool with security cover, can be heated on request and is shared by the owners who live on site in a neighbouring property. However the pool cannot be seen from owner’s property. It is 2km to the village of Domfront for restaurant and shops. Further shops and a tennis court are available at Conlie, 4km. There is a swimming lake for children at Sille-le-Guillaume, 15km, as well as plenty of walks in lovely forests close by. The world famous Loire châteaux are about an hour and a half drive and Le Mont Saint-Michel is worth a day trip to the Brittany coast, a 2 hour drive. Le Mans, famous for its 24 hour race, is also only 20km away.

The house is set on the banks of the Indre river, along which you can fish for approximately 3 km. In the garden you will find tennis, volleyball, badminton, basketball and a sandpit for the children. There is also a games room with table tennis and a gym for adults. The outdoor swimming pool is surrounded by a terrace and there is a garage for 2 cars. The old wing, which was previously used by the servants, is now a laundry room. On the ground floor are 2 bedrooms with four poster beds, and one with bunk beds, a large family kitchen will accommodate everyone, the lounge is comfortable and homely with elegant decor and a fireplace. On the first floor there are 2 large bedrooms, both with double bed, and 2 twin. In the summer months the area is a hive of agricultural activity. Wine tasting and cheese can be delivered along with fresh bread in the morning. Shop and restaurant 2.5km.
