Some of the towns and villages in this region are amongst the most beautiful in France. The largest and busiest city in the region is Montpellier, a thriving metropolitan city with plenty to offer, the old part of the city is filled with ancient architecture from its medieval period.

Much of the region is like this, with numerous old castles, forts and monuments along the coastline.
