In a beautiful, unspoilt area of Southern France, this detached house is located on the outskirts of the village of Belcaire in the Eastern Pyrenees foothills. Only a 5-minute stroll away there is a lake to swim in which has lifeguards in July and August, a children’s play area and well-maintained tennis courts. It is a perfect walking location with amazing views and many varieties of wild flowers and birds. There are walks to suit all abilities from local strolls to challenging mountain walks. Day excursions could include Puivert (15km) which also has a lake with an imported sandy beach, a medieval château and an historic instrument museum. Quillan (30km), is a major tourist centre for the upper Aude Valley, the walled town of Mirepoix (50km) and of course the medieval city of Carcassonne, the largest fortress in Europe; to visit Le Cité is to be transported back to the Middle Ages. Trips to Andorra (83km) via Ax-les-Fermes (22km), with its Roman-style spa and baths, and Perpignan (98km), or spending a day on the golden, sandy, Mediterranean beaches (115km) could also be considered. Shops, café/bar and restaurant 500m.
