The Dordogne is located in south west France inland from the Gironde estuary and has long been a prized holiday destination for British holiday makers. They come here for its slow, relaxed pace of life, pretty country towns and old villages, ancient castles and utterly beautiful and varied rural scenery. The Dordogne is home to a number of fortified medieval towns. Take a boat trip on a flat bottomed gabarre to explore pretty riverside villages, or if you fancy something more adventurous, you can hire a kayak at the pretty town of Brantôme and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the river Dronne at your own pace.

The department of Lot with its limestone countryside is a lovely slice of rural France; its capital, the small city of Cahors, has charming medieval streets and a unique 14th century bridge, the Pont de Valentre.
