Located in the north-west of the country, the region boasts a myriad of great beaches, tranquil towns and an abundance of historic buildings, making it the perfect location for a self-catering break across the channel.

With a rich Celtic heritage, Brittany enjoys an atmosphere and has a language all of its own, setting it apart from the rest of France. Even its very name is derived from the ''Britons'' whom came here from Britain to escape invaders in Anglo Saxon times.

The Brittany region is blessed with an array of historic towns, making it a veritable paradise for history lovers. The town of St Malo, surrounded by ancient stone walls, is one of the most visited towns in Brittany. With narrow cobbled streets lined by unique shops, bars and cafes selling all manner of traditional French produce, it is easy to see why St Malo is so popular with tourists. The ramparts which surround the town are perfect for a steady stroll, taking in magnificent views of the surrounding area.

One ‘must-visit’ when in Brittany is Mont St Michel, near to the border with Normandy. Sitting just off the coast, Mont St Michel is a medieval abbey and town located on a small rocky outcrop and is now designated as an official UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Travelling even further back in time, the prehistoric stone monuments at Carnac make up one of the most famous megalithic sites in France. Not far from Carnac, just off the south coast of Brittany, the island of Belle-Ille is the perfect place to truly unwind as no cars are permitted here. This means the island''s beaches are tranquillity personified.

It offers a magnificent view over the Trieux Estuary and a pond. From the terrace you can watch the comings and goings of boats near the port of Lézardrieux. On the outskirts of Trieux there are many coves and little beaches including the family beach of Craclais, while near the cottage you can reach the botanical path, via one of the hiking trails.
