Lovers of nature will find much to love in Aquitaine; the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park is one of the most heavily forested areas in Europe. To the north the Dordogne is a place of tiny villages, fields of sunflowers, oak woods and quaint country markets.

Bayonne Cathedral is a medieval masterpiece. Sarlat is an amazing historic town with well-preserved medieval and Renaissance era buildings and a 16th century troglodyte cliff house. The national museum of prehistory at Les Eyzies holds fascinating collections pertaining to the earliest human settlements in Europe. Bordeaux, the regional capital has the world''s largest urban Unesco World Heritage site as its ancient centre and one of the finest surviving 18th century theatres in Europe.
