To the north the Dordogne is a place of tiny villages, fields of sunflowers, oak woods and quaint country markets.

This is great cycling and walking country; with cycling tracks and quiet country roads. There are some 2,000 kilometres of protected and well maintained cycling routes as well as sign-posted walking trails.

Those seeking history, art and culture will also find a world of interest in Aquitaine. The medieval fortress chateau at Bonaguil is one of the finest and best preserved in France. Bayonne Cathedral is a medieval masterpiece. Sarlat is an amazing historic town with well-preserved medieval and Renaissance era buildings and a 16th century troglodyte cliff house. The national museum of prehistory at Les Eyzies holds fascinating collections pertaining to the earliest human settlements in Europe. Bordeaux, the regional capital has the world''s largest urban Unesco World Heritage site as its ancient centre and one of the finest surviving 18th century theatres in Europe.

For those who prefer sun, sand and sea, Aquitaine has a fabulous beach culture, with picturesque harbours and seaside resorts. The Silver Coast is popular with surfers, and there are ample opportunities for snorkelling, windsurfing, fishing and boat charter for a scenic coastal cruise.

This little piece of paradise between the sea and the forest is only an hour’s drive from Biarritz and Dax, and two hours away from Spain’s Moliets. These holiday villas (F40120, F40121, F40140 and FA269) are located 1km from the charming beach (not supervised) and 1.8km from a wider beach. The villas are spread over a large part of the resort and in 3 hamlets, and the internals can vary between each villa. They can be reached via many cycling routes through dunes and pine forests. They are all comfortably furnished and equipped with a TV and a fireplace. The French doors in the living room open directly onto the terrace, which leads to the pool garden. Shops, restaurants and beaches are all within easy reach by foot or by bike. The bike trails (about 500-1500 metres depending on the house) run across the golf course under the shade of the pine trees and the dunes.
