Holiday cottages in England need little introduction. After all, a cottage break is really the quintessential English holiday, and we think there are few better ways to explore the wonderful history and heritage the country has to offer. Alternatively, the south of England isn’t short of beauty either. Whether its Dorset’s stunning Jurassic coastline or the sleepy charms of the Cotswolds, you won’t be short of beautiful views and unrivalled tranquillity. Then again, if you like it loud and lively you’ll find some of Europe’s most vibrant urban hotspots to explore and enjoy. London is obviously a huge draw with tourists and holidaymakers but you’re guaranteed a fantastic cosmopolitan experience in some of England’s other major cities too: Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, York, Chester and more all offer wonderful shopping with fine dining and some justly celebrated heritage.

England’s landscape is as varied as it is beautiful, so you won’t be surprised to find it’s suitable for a wealth of different breaks. If you fancy beaches then you’ll be spoiled for choice with the golden sands of Cornwall and Devon, the wild shorelines of Northumberland or the traditional seaside heritage of Great Yarmouth, Brighton and Blackpool. Further inland you have a variety of beautiful wide-open expanses to enjoy, with or without your four-legged friends. There is also a stylish, open-tread, spiral staircase to a vaulted, galleried bedroom which looks down onto a gorgeous chandelier and over the main living area, giving a great sense of space.

    Steps lead to a sunny south-facing decked area complete with Roman well, views over surrounding buildings, and backing onto the owner’s garden with a vegetable patch, fruit trees and chickens!

    Attractions nearby include Shepton Mallet high street which is within walking distance, convenient for picking up the morning paper, a pint of milk, a takeaway or an evening meal in a restaurant. The sleepy village of Pilton, where the Glastonbury Festival is held, is 3 miles away, the city of Wells with its cathedral and Bishops’ Palace is 5 minutes’ drive, and timeless Glastonbury, with its abbey ruins and famous tor, is a 15-minute drive.

    Bath is 40 minutes away with its Georgian architecure, Roman Baths, Royal Crescent, Thermae Bath Spa and abbey, and the Royal Bath and West Showground is a 5-minute drive. Longleat House and Safari Park is 20 minutes by car, and the spectacular Cheddar Gorge and Caves and Wookey Hole Show Caves are within 20-25 minutes’ drive. The beautiful Mendip countryside is right on the doorstep and the coast is within striking distance. For ‘shopaholics’, Kilver Court Designer Emporium is 1 mile down the road, plus the designer shopping outlet centre ‘Clarks Village’ is about a 15-minute drive away at Street. Bristol airport and the city of Bristol are both approximately 50 minutes away, and the nearest train station is Castle Cary, approximately 6 miles away. Shops, pubs and restaurants 500 yards.

    Mindello was built in 1895, at the same time as Bram Stoker was writing his book Draculain Whitby. The first owners were Sea Captain Thomas Ormston and his family, his merchant ship the Shipcote was lost, presumed torpedoed off the Norwegian coast in 1915. Mindello is an ideal base for keen ramblers as the 110 mile Cleveland way is right on your doorstep. The tour bus, which passes the door, and is a great way to get around and to make sure you don’t miss out on everything Whitby has to offer. You could also take a trip out on one of the pleasure boats, where you can enjoy a trip around the harbour and out to sea, there you can view Whitby, in all its glory. The lovely coastal resorts of Sandsend, Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay are all within close proximity and are well worth a visit.

Approached by a private road, the holiday cottages are situated 2 miles from the historic port and market town of Bideford with its variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, and from where regular sailing trips to Lundy Island can be taken. They also lie within easy driving distance of Hartland where the dramatic English Heritage Coastline has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but there are also many other scenic walks both inland and coastal to enjoy. The pretty fishing villages of Instow, Clovelly and Appledore are close by and well worth a visit, as are a host of other quaint little villages, each with its own unique character, charm and welcoming inn. The Tarka Trail passes close by and offers walking and cycling along the estuary, with cycle hire available. The area is a must for surfers and beach lovers, and the sandy beaches are not to be missed. Fishing, sailing, horse riding and golf are available locally, and Exmoor National Park is within easy reach. Other places of interest are Dartington Crystal, Tapely Park and Gardens, and RHS Rosemoor Gardens, all within 8 miles. Shops 2 miles, village pub serving food approximately 1 mile.
