Holiday cottages in England need little introduction. After all, a cottage break is really the quintessential English holiday, and we think there are few better ways to explore the wonderful history and heritage the country has to offer. But with so many beautiful locations – and so much to see and do – your only problem may be deciding where to enjoy your break. For those who can bear to tear themselves away from the coast, there are many wonderful attractions further inland, such as Bodmin Moor and the slate caverns near St Neot. Plymouth is 25 miles away. Arundel, with its castle is about a 20-minute drive, and there are various beaches to visit, including Worthing and Brighton, which are within a ½ hour drive. There are lovely walks over the renowned reserve to the RSPB centre at Wiggonholt. Also within easy reach and worth a visit is Chichester, with its beautiful ornate cathedral and famous Goodwood Races for horse or motor racing, Fontwell racecourse and Polo at Midhurst. Other places of interest nearby include Petworth House and Gardens, Parham House (NT), The Weald and Downland open-air museum, and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, which is ideal for bird-watchers. Water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing can be found at the south coastal seaside resorts. Other outdoor pursuits in the area are horse riding, fishing, walking and cycling. Beach 15 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

The imposing 300m ridge of the Mendip Hills is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching eastward from the Bristol Channel, rising like a rampart above the Somerset Levels. Near the barn, Burrington Combe is a perfect starting point for many wonderful walks and rides. The bottom of the Combe has a café/restaurant which is an ideal stop for tea and cake or an ice-cream. Further afield is Bristol, the Roman city of Bath, the city of Wells and Wells Cathedral, the Somerset Levels & moors, Cheddar Gorge and Caves, Wookey Hole Caves, Glastonbury Tor and Abbey or for some retail therapy, visit Clarks Village designer outlet shopping centre at Street. For long sandy beaches and Victorian seaside resorts, visit Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Brean, Berrow and Burnham-on-Sea. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Many visitors come to see Avebury which is famous for its large stone circle, just a 10-minute drive away and Stonehenge is a 25-minute drive, while historic Bath, Cirencester, Malmesbury and Salisbury are all within a 50-minute drive. A number of shops, pubs and restaurants all within half a mile.
