Holiday cottages in England need little introduction. After all, a cottage break is really the quintessential English holiday, and we think there are few better ways to explore the wonderful history and heritage the country has to offer. England’s landscape is as varied as it is beautiful, so you won’t be surprised to find it’s suitable for a wealth of different breaks. The buildings have been lovingly restored and converted, and the cottages have been commended in the Yorkshire Dales National Park Golden Jubilee Awards of 2005, recognising the skill and dedication of local craftsmen and designers whose work respected the history and heritage of the cottages whilst providing all comforts and amenities that guests would expect. The cottages are cosy, warm and welcoming with wood burners and electric storage heaters, and retain many original features which include stone flagged floors, stone alcoves, beamed ceilings, inglenook and feature fireplaces and stone staircases.

    Hidden away down a private lane on Whitaside in Swaledale, accessed via a rough track and occupying an elevated position across the valley from Low Row, Feetham Holme Cottages are a haven for guests who enjoy walking, cycling and rambling through the great outdoors. There is a multitude of established footpaths that lead right from the door and will take guests on a journey through some of the most spectacular scenery that this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has to offer, and leads right through Swaledale, Wensleydale, Arkengarthdale and beyond.

    The popular market town of Reeth is only three miles away and offers many amenities including a weekly farmers’ market, local pubs, shops and tea rooms. Smaller villages and towns nearby include Gunnerside, Keld, Thwaite and Fremington. There are many excellent local pubs, restaurants and country inns which provide the perfect resting place, before, during or after a long walk or cycle. A little further afield but still within easy driving distance, there are many popular attractions to visit for all ages, including Castle Bolton, Swaledale Folk Museum, Theakstons Brewery, Wensleydale Creamery and The Forbidden Corner.

    Within 20 miles, guests really must visit the Georgian town of Richmond, Hawes or Leyburn which are especially popular with families and offer many places to explore including Richmond Castle and theatre, and Leyburn Chocolate Shop. There is ample parking and privacy for all three cottages at Feetham Holme and this makes it the perfect choice for guests wanting to book one, two or all three cottages together for the ultimate family holiday.

Set in the renowned and award-winning classical English village of Romaldkirk, set around three village greens, just 5 miles from the historic town of Barnard Castle, South View Mews is an excellent base for walking and exploring the North Pennines, High Force (Britain’s highest waterfall) and the Upper Tees Valley.
    If you enjoy eating out then the local pub is but 10 yards from the cottage and has a range of hand pulled ales and multi award-winning dining. In the next village there is another excellent pub with great food set in a casual dining environment. There are also a number of very good pubs in Middleton in Teesdale, Holwick and Cotherstone just a stones throw away. You could also visit the local farm shop and cafe just along the road.
    There is extensive walking with the Pennine Way passing just 3 miles away and at the nearby reservoirs you can stroll to High Birk Hatt, the rural home of Hannah Hauxwell, the lady of the Dales made famous by the television documentaries in the 1970s.
    Riding can be arranged in the village with a number of liveries and golf can be enjoyed at Barnard Castle Golf Club or at a number of high quality courses from Rockliffe Hall at Hurworth to Slaley Hall or a lovely 9 hole course at Headlam Hall just a few miles away.
    Barnard Castle lies just 5 miles to the east with regular and reliable buses just 50 yards from South View Mews and offers a typical market town feel with a range of antique shops. There is a good range of butchers, bakeries and a smattering of high street stores with cafes, pubs, restaurants and a large supermarket. There are farmers markets at Middleton-in-Teesdale.
    Further afield, the delightful town of Durham with its magnificent cathedral, Beamish Museum, Auckland Castle, former home of the Prince Bishops, and the north east coastline, with its many harbour and ports.
