The ancient market towns of Kirkby Moorside, Malton, Hemlsey and Pickering are all easily accessed, and the weekly markets are still a main attraction. Historic homes, halls and castles abound in this area, with Rievaulx Abbey, Castle Howard, Burton Agnes Hall and Sewerby Hall and Gardens to name but a few, all make for a great day out.     Robin Hood’s Bay is definitely worth a visit during your stay. It is a small fishing village with twisting little lanes down to the seafront and lots of places to stop for cream teas or a traditional fish and chips supper. It is one of the best places in the UK for fossil hunting with your little ones.
    The property is situated next to the Cleveland Way route, which is perfect for guests who like to explore. There is also the Cinder Track, a 21-mile walk along the old railway line between Scarborough and Whitby. Denton House provides idyllic accommodation for walkers, cyclists and dog walkers, with lots of stunning scenery along this North Yorkshire coastline.
    Ravenscar is perched on the clifftops and looks north towards Robin Hood’s Bay and south towards Scarborough. The history of Ravenscar is all about Alum, with the Alum Works at the bottom of the cliffs. Alum was mined and processed here and was used for the fabric dyeing industry, and is now a fascinating National Trust site.
    The larger resorts of Whitby and Scarborough are just a short drive away. Whitby is a very busy working harbour and town, and is famous for the abbey perched on the hill. Here you can walk the cobbled streets and count the 199 steps to the abbey. Alternatively, Scarborough is a large Victorian seaside resort famous for its two bays, the North Bay being the quieter of the two. The long marine drive is over three miles of flat walking and is ideal for a romantic evening stroll. Beach 600 yards. Shop 8 miles, pub 2 miles and restaurant 500 yards.
