Pickering is the gateway to the North York Moors and well placed for exploring the rolling moors and enjoying days out at the Yorkshire coast.

It’s also the southern terminus of the famous North Yorkshire Steam Railway, where you can travel in style through beautiful moors countryside, stopping at picturesque villages on the way, right to Whitby and the Yorkshire coast.

This characterful town has a fine selection of independent shops, fine art galleries and antique shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Local history can be found at the 12th century castle and Parish Church where 15th century wall paintings can be viewed or pop along to the Beck Isle Museum, which offers a fascinating insight into the area’s past.

Take a short trip out of the town to the spectacular Hole of Horcum, a massive natural depression where paragliders and hang-gliders can be seen riding the air currents. Nearby too is the Dalby Forest, a popular destination for lovely walks, a drive or perhaps a picnic. Families will enjoy the Go Ape attraction in the forest and Flamingo Land theme park and Zoo a short distance away.
