Kettlewell is a charming Yorkshire village in Upper Wharfedale, and the meeting place of the Kettlewell Beck and the River Wharfe. A tranquil and beautiful slice of the Yorkshire Dales, it offers plenty of historic attractions and outdoor activities.

Ideal for a getaway that is far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, this rural paradise provides an excellent cottage location for families looking for lots of outdoor activities, individuals seeking a relaxing break or couples on a romantic sojourn in pristine and unspoilt countryside.

Once a thriving market town, Kettlewell was almost destroyed by flood in 1686 and as a consequence many of buildings were rebuilt after this natural disaster. The remains of a smelting-mill can be found near the meeting of Dowber Gill Becks and Cam Gill and the church, which remains in use to this day, was built in 1820. The chapel was built at Scargill House in the 1960s and is a fine example of 20th Century architecture, contrasting with the 17th and 18th century architecture.

There are many home industries in Kettlewell and locally made produce is in abundance thanks to the extensive network of neighbouring farms, many of which also open to the public in the summer months.

Located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Kettlewell is a walker’s haven and makes an attractive base for anyone who enjoys exploring the surrounding limestone terraces, rolling green hills, valleys and rivers. There are also plenty of opportunities for cyclists to explore the quiet, winding lanes and nearby villages, and for the more adventurous, a ride out into the farmlands offers breath taking scenery.
