Bedale

This traditional market town and the surrounding villages provide the ideal holiday cottage base for touring Wharfedale and has easy access to both the Yorkshire Dales National Park and North York Moors National Park.

Bedale has some lovely Georgian buildings but its history stretches back to medieval times and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The town has plenty of local facilities, interesting independent shops, and places to eat and drink. Close by are tranquil walks and stunning countryside; The Heritage Trail takes you around town and points out all the points of interest.

For a relaxing tour of the region join the Wharfedale Railway at nearby Leeming Bar. For day out ideas visit Bedale Hall which is a fine example of Georgian architecture and Jervaulx Abbey; one of England’s most notable Cistercian abbeys. Also of interest is Snape Castle Chapel, which is not open to the public but presents a striking structure.

Many local Yorkshire beers are produced at the breweries in the region which offer visitor attraction facilities and tours, including Theakstons Brewery and Black Sheep Brewery located at picturesque Masham. Guests who visit Middleham are often treated to the glorious sight of thoroughbred horses being led through the town up on to the gallops in the fields just outside. A haven for walkers and cyclists, the area is extremely popular all year round and offers fabulous views across hills and dales, as well as majestic waterfalls like nearby Aysgarth Falls and Ingleton Falls.
