There’s plenty of nightlife in the town, from fine restaurants and good pubs to the Stephen Joseph Theatre, home to most of Alan Ayckbourn’s premieres.

    Down the coast, you can see thousands of seabirds at the RSPB bird sanctuary at Bempton, including puffins, gannets and guillemots, along with lots of seals that sunbathe on the rocks below. Driving south, you have the resorts of Flamborough Head, Bridlington and Hornsea, and to the north, there’s Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay.
